Finally sitting down to play
Ive always had in interest in retro/ old rpg games from years back, or atleast that format. Ive gotten an hour into this and that itch is being scratched. Is anyone else having a similiar vibe?

Yup, decided to pick Avadon back up after Avadon 2 got released. It's a really good game, but then again, so are all Jeff's games.

Yeah, I'm putting in a couple of hours here and there, do you know of any other similair games out there like this?

...Avadon 2? ....

No but seriously, pretty much all Spiderweb Software games. Avadon , Avadon 2 and Avernum Escape from the pit all uses the same engine and works pretty much the same. And they are all good games.

Well i meant from other dev teams and other franchses, apologies

Well, the Spiderweb games are all spiritual successors to the old crpg-games, such as Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2, Arcanum.
I have been checking out Aarklash Legacy too, seems to be a mix of the old partybased rpg and a bit of Dragon Age.

I've been on an old school kick lately too. It's not letting up. If you like this, try Eschalon. I'll be playing that when I finish with Avadon, while I save up for Avadon 2, and wait for Avernum 2.

Eschalon! Ofcourse, I forgot those games, I've played book 1 and 2, waiting eagerly for book 3. Simpler, non-party based isometric rpg...sorta. Really good games.

But that is from the same developer.

But as Nightboard said, Eschalon is an isometric rpg in an old-school vein.

( But you shouldn't disregard the other Spiderweb games, they are all great. So as Studmuffin said - Escape from the pit is great. )

Just make sure you finish Avadon before starting Avadon 2 because there are obvious spoilers in the storyline of the sequel. I have loved every minute of both this game and Avadon 2 so far!

Great to know there are other Avadon-fans out there,

I only found out about this game a month ago, and I had wanted to buy a turn-based rpg that runs in linux ever since we got Steam (I don't know how I missed this.) Hopefully, there will be a linux port of Avadon 2. If so, I would certainly purchase it. If I would have to run it in Wine, I'd maybe/probably purchase it.

Spiderweb software games are the only ones that can scratch that retro itch for me ... b/c I've never played retro games before. Thats to say these are retro, but something that also stays classic. See if u can find chimera stones online, thats alright. :)

I've played Avernum: Escape From the Pit and Avernum 6 for quite a while. I've been meaning to finish them and then play Avernum 4 and 5. Spiderweb Software is pretty awesome. I'll add the entire collection of games by him on Steam eventually. They're just that good.

EDIT: Check out a game called "Incubation". The devs did something amazing at some point... they said since it was SOOooo long since the game had come out it was perfectly legal to download and play for free. Note that I'm talking about the original being good not the "wilderness missions". If you liked XCOM: EU/EW you'll LOVE this game.

Except for the 2 starter guns, weapons aren't better than others, they just have different uses/features. Only bad thing with the free downloaded copy is the intro movie has no sound. And 1 other time your superior lady talks to you. But you're not missing anything really. Other than that all mission briefings are fully voiced and everything works/sounds great.
