Isn't that the one made by the City Skylines devs? ... More competition the better.

Yes and agreed.

And apparently headed by the same guy who led Sims 2 and 3. So this might be somewhat of a spiritual successor to 3.

And if you're wondering if that means potato people... well... the screenshots speak for themselves. 👀

But yes, great to have some activity in the genre!

I'm okay with potato people, and just want a 64 bit Sims(3) that can properly use modern cpus.

It is Paradox though, which means half the game will come in DLC.

I'm sure that Paradox looked at all the DLC for Sims 4 and said "Hey, DLCs are our thing. How did we miss out on this?" :HappyMoonman: Still, the Paralives devs might want to pick up the pace, and get their game out before September, because you know that Paradox will have a lot of advertising & promotion for their game, and you probably don't want to follow them a few months later.

By the way, have the devs for Paralives ever addressed DLC for their game? Will there be a lot of it, not as much as Sims 4, an amount somewhere in between?

Not that I've seen. just that DLC is planned for basically the same features that Sims had them for ... occults, ect.

Not really, Cities: Skylines was developed by Colossal Order and distributed by Paradox Interactive, Life by You is being developed by Paradox Tectonic.

It's Paradox, 80% of game mechanics will be locked by DLC. It's so sad seeing the state of game industry, they use "no telemetry" as marketing buzz.

I'll keep an eye on Paralives, but Life By You has quickly moved up and replaced it at the head of the pack for me in the next gen of Life Sims, especially after reading Humble's interview. A focus on configuring your own world how you want it (demographics, pick and plop lots and housing, etc). A focus on modding so much that they have the modding tools at launch (including scripting!) and if I understood, within the game itself (things like the conversation editor). Not retreading old ground, but actually pushing the genre forward (with things like the conversation editor, etc). The game seems hyperfocused on letting the players take the steering wheel and not forcing us to use guardrails.

None of this is a knock on Paralives, of course. Paradox has far deeper pockets, and can throw lots more money and people at their Sims competitor, and like I said, I'll still likely check out Paralives when the time comes, but Life By You is where I'll pin my "Sims Competitor" hopes, DLC hell or not. I just like it's philosophy toward player/user agency more. It goes right along with my desire for the current AI revolution to eventually lead to games made with integrated, customizable modern AI that can create dynamic experiences for each player depending on their wants. Not there yet, but someday.

I agree all what you said. Paralives is getting so slow... don't get me wrong: better slow than a bad release. But it's best a good timing and good release. Let's see what they will offer on september. Remember thant facts win words.

And thats the reason why i wont even bother following it. I dont give a sh*t anymore about paradox's dlc culture. After Stellaris, CK2 & 3 im just done with this crap (a bit late, i know).

I want both. But it'll be nice to have Life By You until Paralives comes. So far, from the previews the vibe for Life By You and Paralives seems REALLY different, so it'll be cool to see what both have to offer. Sims 5 better be a masterpiece, or I'm not buying it. I hope all the competition will force EA to allow the Sims devs the time and money to do their thing for real this time.
