Don't need to update to steam it does it on my pc anyway or my USB.

You don't need steam to download retroarch on the steam deck.

And I guys thats it but even that sucks you have built in net play within retroarch so why steam it

Sharing/saving screenshots, remote play together, counting your hours spent playing. All of this is a good enough reason to boot it from Steam, besides my Steam is open 24/7 and it's much more convenient just alt tabbing to it than having to navigate windows explorer every time I want to play a game.

I just want to point out an easier way for the people dragging/dropping files: open up the standalone version of retroarch, point the directories towards the steam version of retroarch. Now when you load up the standalone you can download the updated files and it will automatically apply themselves to the steam version.

Also, with this method you can launch the standalone version to use the desktop mode Steam doesn't allow for some stupid reason whenever you need to edit playlists.

EDIT: I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in and say the Steam version saves your configuration files to the cloud, so if you play on multiple PCs you don't need to reconfigure everything again. Pretty sure it might save game saves/save states too, but haven't tested myself as I just use Dropbox so I can keep my saves on my phone too. I also like having it just to know when there's a new version of RetroArch without having to check the website.

You can literally drop the cores in, they work, done deal. Also NOBODY cares how you use Retroarch. I dont care. Retroarch doesnt care, your mom doesn't care.

To add detail to this bug report - big picture mode is the cause. It worked fine before. I literally played Path of Radiance via dolphin on steam link 2 days ago and it was fine. Today it won't render.

dolphin is really unstable on retroarch as it is, i haven't gotten it to work for 3 months even with help from a mod on their Reddit. id just use the emulator by itself until it becomes more stable

Are you going to improve the stability of DeSmuME? Honestly it works worse than downloading it externally. :/

NES, Mame, GameCube, Saturn and Dreamcast don't work for me. But if RetroArch is always updating on Steam, I'll just wait, eventually they willl work.
