How to disable turbo?
For the longest time I couldn't figure out how to enable turbo on FinalBurn NEO. I finally figured out that I needed to go to the main settings of RetroArch and assign a button in controller 1 to the turbo button. Unfortunately, now I can't figure out how to disable turbo. I've tried everything short of saving a core configuration file. Even after I go to the main settings and restore the turbo assignment to, "---", or assign it to a new button, turbo still is enabled. If I go to the game's quick menu and set each turbo setting to a low number or a high number, nothing is changed, and the turbo function is still enabled. I tried to manually disable turbo by adding lines to the .cfg file for a game and assigning a different button, as directed by: https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroArch/comments/v7o5bc/how_to_take_full_advantage_of_retroarchs_turbo/
I tried to reset the retroarch.cfg. Nothing disables turbo.
Even that method did nothing and the turbo still works like the default settings. How do I disable turbo in FinalBurn NEO?

I think the turbo functionality might be bugged. I've tried everything and can't disable it. Everything has been deleted, rebound, reset to defaults, and nothing disables it. There is no key assigned to the Turbo hotkey in the main settings, and there is still turbo functionality.

Do you mean this "turbo"?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4EUNrI4DhM

I tried and it worked for me, no problem like yours using FinalBurn Neo with King of Fighters 94. But I don't really understand what is the benefit or purpose of using that. Maybe is a bad translation to spanish, my native language.

When I think on "turbo", it means for me speeding up the game. And that is done on other menu:
settings > input > hotkeys > fast-forward / fast-forward (held)

Cheers

The video doesn't play but what I mean by turbo is rapid fire. It seems that the configuration file for the one game for which I tested turbo is persistent even if I delete the configuration, or delete the game and reinstall it. Other games in FinalBurn NEO still have turbo disabled at I haven't messed with the turbo settings for other games. The various turbo settings for the particular game do not seem to affect the behavior of turbo.

I understand that this is not a critical issue.

Retroarch Folder > Config > FinalBurn Neo > x

Delete anything related to your game in that folder (you should see the name of the archive).

Depending on your customized your installation, you may also want to delete:
FinalBurn Neo.cfg
FinalBurn Neo.opt

Retroarch Folder > Config > remaps > FinalBurn Neo > x
Do the same as above.

If your problem persists after that, the issue is either related to your settings in Retroarch's gamepad entries, or the core default settings.

If it's related to the core, when you're ingame :
Quick Menu > Gamepad Remaps (I don't remember the exact name) > Turbo Button > x
You can set a specific key for turbo in this menu, check the values if your problem comes from here.

Phobos, thanks for your suggestions. I had already deleted the game's .cfg file in FinalBurn Neo. I deleted FinalBurn Neo.opt but could not locate FinalBurn Neo.cfg. There is no remap file for the game. The problem persists no matter what settings for turbo are set in the quick menu.

Do you have only one controller active on your retroarch entries or multiple ones ?

I know you already tried to reset the retroarch.cfg, but can you use https://pastebin.com/ and :
- open your current retroarch.cfg
- copy all the lines starting with "input" on a new paste

Share the link here.

(Never copy or share your entire retroarch.cfg to anyone, if you use Retroachievements, Youtube streaming, cloud sync or anything that needs account authentication, the passwords are stored in full text in the file, which is problematic).

If you deleted all .cfg / .opt files related to FBNeo and the game, there's no reason the turbo problem persists, so I'm trying to understand and except the retroarch.cfg, I don't see other possible files that can mess your setup.

Also, out of curiosity, what is the game you're trying to play ?
I'll try to check if I can replicate the issue.

Phobos thanks again for checking. I'm just about ready to give up since it doesn't seem worth more time but then again it would be nice to fix it.

I'm playing Asteroids Deluxe and can't disable turbo. I've tried at least one other game, Space Duel, for which I hadn't messed with turbo, and for Space Duel turbo is disabled.

Okay, I just gave it a try, no particular problems with or without the turbo on my side.

It might sound stupid, but... you know this version of the game has autofire ?

The original Asteroids doesn't, Asteroids Deluxe however has autofire.

Hmmm. Really? I didn't know that and I have been playing Asteroids Deluxe for years and multiple platforms. Maybe it's just a baked in feature that I've only just learned now because your stated this? Haha I'll read about it.

The real hardware doesn't lie ;D

That's why I asked the specific game you were trying 'cause it seemed you cleaned up every possible config file, there was nothing else possibly causing conflicts.

Here is the full explanation. The feature is enabled by default only on newer ROMs: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/asteroids-deluxe-auto-fire-question.156236/

Oh okay, I didn't know that, but it makes sense.

Arcade games revisions can be VERY different for the same game indeed.
Graphics, music or gameplay can be altered a lot depending on the revision.

A common example is Ikari III, a game that plays with a rotary joystick on various revisions, but some countries had a version playing with classic joystick controls.

Some 3 or 4players arcade cabinets also had regular 2 players variants, hosting different roms for some.

This is a pretty great ressource listing various roms revisions and their specifications.
It's not pretty, but very useful to understand how games revisions worked back then and what version you may want to play.

Thanks. I had visited that site in the past. That site mentions automatic rapid fire in the, trivia section of the, "History," field. It does not address the presence or absence of automatic rapid fire in various versions of the ROMs.

For some reason, after all the troubleshooting my saves to core override and global override are not saving. Saves to retroarch.cfg are saving, however. I noticed that a lot of settings were messed up. The screenshot to GPU was turned on for some reason so the screenshots took pictures of the menu instead of the game. The mouse pointer kept showing when starting games and I discovered the setting to show mouse pointer in overlay was set to on. These were settings I had never touched. I didn't know RetroArch was this wonky.
