RetroArch

RetroArch

MAME internal menu
Some of the MAME cores will open the mame menu with tab others you have to go into core settings then to system to turn on the MAME menu. Is there a way to change the keys to open and close this menu with out having to go into retroarch quick menu every time.

Why do you use several mame cores?
MAME (current) is the one you should be using and is more updated.
Tab is the key to access its menu and also within that menu is where you can customise the menu button.

Yes it's F5 but f5 brings up something for retroarch. I'll change it to tab.

Because some mame games only work with a certain version. Which is the mame current one? As i downloaded all the mame versions. From my many years of using different mame versions this holds true that certain roms only work on certain mame versions.

I was talking about changing the key inside mame's menu not RA.
I'm using just one mame (current) and all the games I tried work w/o issues (the whole set). Maybe your romset is old, try with a new one. Using many mame is kinda a mess.

Just got them all again the other day. Took me many hours just to grab over 350 of them.

Not sure which one is current as there is none in the list that say current in the online updater.

To use Tab, set game focus mode on by pressing scroll lock.

Oh I see it changed its denomination. It's the second counting from the very bottom in your ss the one just called arcade (mame). No years, just mame.
Please remember not to talk about or mention where you got your roms (especially from the web). I'd edit your message if I were you.

See a lot of my different version of street fighter won't work with that version. So i had to use the 2010.

Exactly because it seems you have old roms from old sets. mame 2010 for instance is already pretty old while "(just) mame" is newer I've just updated it and the version is 0.259 and according to google it's from 2023. You see the difference? Unless you don't mind opening several mames for different games you can use just the most advanced mame w/o issues.
Besides using the last build guarantees you tons of bugs fix, many corrections, more compatibility, and more.

I don't know where to get newer sets and maybe a lot of them the roms of different games won't boot no matter which mame i use. No way i know of to verify them. I did have the 16gb of roms i had them from 20 10 according to when i put them all in a .7zip file to try and save some space back when i only had 3 hard drives. No i don't run the games from that 1 zip file, i have extracted them to a rom folder in retroarch folder. But still some don't work no matter the version of mame i use.
I don't mind having different mame versions as retroarch keeps the mame version i chose in set core.

Just wish there was a way to verify all my mame roms.
Wish i could get my street fighter prototype to work i get a coinlock error. Must be very old or they can't get it working going to try a stand alone mame and see if i can get past the coin lock.
