Dlc on steam or get the cores and manually install. Where from has been listed many times if you look through comments.

A number of emulators on the page doesn't actually lists what they actually emulate, like Mesen.
If you're looking for something in particular, you may actually ask around.

One of the guides has a link to their github page.
Essentially you download the cores as a zip file and just unzip them into the "cores" folder of retroarch.
Thats it.
Just import the roms you want to play and select the core you want to use when you start said rom.

Retroarch looks more complicated than it actually is.
Only real issue is you cant import patched roms but you can still run them via "load content"

Most cores support softpatching so you can leave the unpatched rom and the IPS patch in the same folder and with the same filename and it'll patch when loading.

i know they do, i mean importing to retroarch library itself.
There technically is a guide to importing patched roms but ive never got them to work properly.

Like i said tho you can still run the roms just importing into your collection is a pain in the aass and usually not worth it

I've been able to get patched versions of some ROMs and ISOs of games I'm playing by using a certain naming convention (e.g. "Game Name (Region).rom"). I have patched versions of Mega Man X4 (Undub patch), X5 (Localization Addendum patch), and X6 (X6 Tweaks patch), changed their file names and edited their cue sheets to the correct name, among other ROM hacks I'm using, and it RetroArch's scanner was able to find the games.

Edit: Ninja'd response.

Soft patching is something I haven't heard of, I could give that a try if I need to undo and re-install a ROM hack for certain games I'm playing on RetroArch.

Importing patched roms to your library is a pain because they're usually not in the rdb database, so I presented you a solution: just leave the unpatched roms (those will be easily added to your library) and the patch file in the same folder the rom is. This will work fine for most older cartridge-based roms because those are small enough that they can be loaded from memory.
