Flycast wants me to upgrade to MAME romsets?
Every time I try to run a rom, I get the same error "Please upgrade to MAME romsets or expect issues"
I tried googling the issue, but I just ended up even more frustrated and confused.

Is it saying it will only run a specific type of rom?

Any advice?

Maybe your roms are too old? Are u using the normal mame or some year specific one?

Probably, I don't know how to check but I suspect it may be the case.

Unfortunately, I've no clue how to fix it.

When I tried googling the matter, I was left with the impression that mame applied solely to arcade roms.

But that can't be right can it?

Try getting more "current" games(roms) and see if the emulator recognises them.
Also flycast?
Try plain mame and obviously you need all req files such as bios.

See, this is where I get confused. Flycast is a Dreamcast emulator right?

Oh dear, yes you are too confused. Try mame and yes, flycast is for DC games. It's like trying to play Mario on a MegaDrive.

If that is the case, then why am I getting an error message telling me to use mame roms on a dreamcast emulator?

Dunno lol. Maybe you should try YT videos about how to start the emulation?

Flycast is a Dreamcast and Arcade (Atomiswave, Naomi) emulator. You are probably playing the arcade roms, and the old, outdated and maybe even incomplete roms. Those arcades are basically Dreamcasts boards with more ram.

If you want Dreamcast games, you should get the disc dumps, preferably the .gdi ones.
If you want the arcade games on flycast, you should get the mame format roms.
.cdi files are what you want, works for me

The good news is, I fixed the problem, turns out it won't read the file properly unless it's unzipped.

The bad news is, now the input isn't working. I went into the control settings on the quick menu and there was nothing there. Not a single button was mapped to anything and there were no mapping options whatsoever.

the core uses the same controls you configured for the menu.

Not really a solution. But it's okay.

I deleted the config file, let Retroarch replace it, and the issue was resolved.

I'm just posting this comment in case someone else has the same problem.
