RetroArch

RetroArch

New thumbnail option: "Content logo"
Guys, I noticed there is a new, fourth option for thumbnails, when going to settings>user interface>appearance>primary thumbnail or secondary thumbnail.

There is:
screenshot
title screen
box art
content logo

In the RetroArch>thumbnails>playlistname folder, the first three items correspond to these subfolders:
Named_Boxart (for box art)
Named_Snaps (for screenshot)
Named_Titles (for title screen)

What is the name of the subfolder that needs to be created to show content logo? I cannot find this new item in the LibRetro Docs. I tried Named_Logos and that didn't work.

It literally is just "Named_Logos" haha. I don't think all systems have them though, when you go to the libretro thumbnail repository (github), only about half of them do. It is a fairly recent addition too, so maybe that's why. I haven't checked changing the primary/secondary thumbnail settings, but I do know that natively, the logos replace content icons when scrolling through a playlist.

SantiDC4 thanks for the post. I found a reference stating that Named_Logos, and the content logo feature only works with the xmb UI: https://docs.libretro.com/guides/roms-playlists-thumbnails/#custom-thumbnails

I accessed the thumbnail setting in Ozone so I'm wondering if you can do this in Ozone. I'll do more testing.

As far as setting a logo as your thumbnail/screenshots go (on xmb), I just tested it and it does indeed change accordingly. Once set though, It doesn't let me change the displayed primary thumbnail when pressing "a" (or X on a controller) but that's irrelevant. Now, concerning Ozone, I don't really use the UI, but I assume the logos aren't implemented because the content icons might be too small, kinda negating the point of having them replaced with logos.

In Ozone, there is a setting: settings>user interface>appearance>playlist icons, that can be set to, "content logo," but it seems to do nothing to change the appearance of the playlist icons. However, the primary and secondary thumbnails can be set to, "content logo," and the image for the content logo will display in the right column as a thumbnail. This can be viewed fullscreen. The image for the content logo will be displayed if the thumbnails are cycled while non-fullscreen or fullscreen only if the content logo is set as the secondary logo, not the primary logo. It is still better than having just 3 kinds of thumbnails. Hopefully this will have full functionality in Ozone in a future update.

From what i researched customizing the ozone is limited. That is why i switched over to xmb as it allows far more customization's.

That is correct. However, I prefer Ozone, since it is a light and clean interface. There still is plenty of customization that is possible. Ozone is reminiscent of the Metro UI of Windows Phone 7.

Currently, in Ozone I have customized these items:
-icons for the playlists
-icons for the content of playlists
-thumbnails, including content logos
-font

Next I will try to customize the sounds for GUI. I tried playing background music once and it was annoying. I need a more neutral audio file for the background and scrolling.

Wish they had a way to make a custom sound for each playlist. Like when you select your genesis playlist you will here sega. Or if you select your playstation playlist it will play the playstation start up sound.

The dynamic background feature in xmb is cool. They could incorporate the dynamic sound with the dynamic background.
