PPSSPP Crashing when closing content
For starters I am using the Linux version on Steam Deck.

Opening content with PPSSPP works fine but whenever I close the content, use save states, or restart the content Retroarch freezes or straight up crashes. If I turn off Audio Sync or switch to Vulkan this fixes some problems but introduces others.

Without Audio Sync the games run too fast and when using Vulkan everything works fine until I try to open the content again, which crashes Retroarch.

I don't remember this happening when I first started using PPSSPP last year so I'm kinda confused as to what is going on. I have installed non-steam cores but I haven't touched any cores available on steam.

place assets at: 'Retroarch/system/ppsspp/

I have this installed but the problems persist. I don't know if Linux is case sensitive but I tried naming the folder "PPSSPP" and "ppsspp" and neither helped.

Try loading the core and selecting "information> core information>" and see if it says assets present. You can also check or change retroarch.cfg for file locations.

Looking in the information tab it says it's looking in the right place but it seems like it's not actually seeing the files.

There a few lines with (!) next to them, one of which says "PPSSPP requires the asset files, lang folder, and flash0 folder inside the 'system\PPSSPP' directory" which I do have. The cases are correct on all files/paths from what I can tell

So update all the system text shows up and it seems like the assets are loaded now but again the crashing persists. Not the worst problem cause stuff still loads and switching to Vulkan makes save states work. Just have to remember to restart Retroarch if I want to re-open a game until I find a solution

You may want to try a new save that isn't corrupted and see if it works now.

ie: start a new game, yes use Vulkan works best for PPSSPP.

Like wipe the saves directory? Or try a game without save data?

Tried a brand new game (never loaded prior) and it still crashed on reload

i have a similar problem. i can only run a game once, then it crashes anytime i try to run a game a second time. i use ppsspp standalone instead and it works fine

I have this problem (in Linux Mint) and it only just started happening yesterday. I believe it had to do with changing my configuration, but I'm not sure how. Saving and loading states work (unless I try to load a state from an empty slot, then it freezes or crashes), but otherwise it's as you describe, especially freezes when restarting a game - though if I "close content" and then load an image as normal, that works fine. Does this work for you?

I just read elsewhere a recommendation to wipe your Retroarch config folder and start fresh, which reportedly worked for the person in question. I'm not keen on doing this as it just took over an hour of frustrating work to restore my Retroarch-wide configurations to where I want them, but it might be worth a try.

If you figure anything else out I'd be keen to hear.
