RetroArch

RetroArch

Retroarch not letting me remap buttons.
I've been trying to troubleshoot for several days now.

When I go into either the main settings OR the core settings and try to remap "d-pad up"; for example; the menu pops up to press a button to bind; but no matter how many times I press the up button, it doesn't respond and times out. But the controller still works, I can rebind in the cores just fine.

I have a completely separate problem which relates to this: For whatever reason; Retroarch binds the N64 "B" button to the L2 button of the retropad, but there is NO L2 button on the core input screen. Since I can't rebind the controllers in the settings menu and there is no L2 option in the core screen, I can't play n64 games because I have no B button.

Is this a Retroarch issue or a Steam issue? Any help is appreciated.

What core and type of controller are you using?

With mupen64nextplus and an xbox type controller (guess ps models too):

Try F1:point_right:Main Menu:point_right:Quick Menu:point_right:Controller:point_right:P1 controller:point_right:

Check that device is set to controller.
Digital analog recommended to left analog

And bind the rest as you please.

I've been trying that. It just acts as if I'm not pressing anything. Then it works as normal. the controller works, I'm just unable to rebind.

Tried a Retrofighters Brawler64, Xbox controller, and 8bitdo Pro+ controllers both set to d-input as well as trying X-input. I also have a cheapie generic Retrolink USB gamepad designed to look like an N64 controller. Using Mupen64.

Did you try disabling steam input with rclick over RA on the library?

Yes I did.

Try Try F1:point_right:Main Menu:point_right:Settings:point_right:Drivers:point_right:Controller:point_right: and see if the other drivers work.

Also Try F1:point_right:Main Menu:point_right:Settings:point_right:Controller:point_right:Retro Pad:point_right:Port 1:point_right: and try binding there too.

Remember to restart RA to save settings.

The drivers seem to work. The bizarre disappearing button has gone away with a reset. Still not letting me change the binds.

Well if it worked before but not now there's a final solution but it will delete settings and set RA back to default.
Delete retroarch.cfg

*shudder* I think I'll try to live with the current jank unless it gets unbearable.

Have you tried using steam input?

Yes I have.

Oh wow. Now I'm dreading dealing with the N64...

You won't get full analog control but maybe make your buttons act as keyboard keys

Now you see, I thought that. But if I hit re-bind on "A" button for example, and I hit the controller, as well as a keyboard key, nothing happens. It just times out.
