Error GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime
With the new update i get an missing GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime in kernel32.dll error when trying to launch Retroach.

Apparently Windows 7 compatibility is broken with the latest release (GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime is available only from Windows 8).

I have downloaded the stand alone version of Retroarch 1.9 and it works without issues. The culprit is mist.dll / mist.exe. I don't know what it does, it's not present in the standalone version.

º Are your drivers, libraries and os up to date?
º Don't think this is the problem but you can also try to delete retroarch.cfg and see if that works. (Your settings may be deleted so you should make a back up).
º You can also try reinstalling RA.

I personally copypasted standalone RA over steam to get the updater and never have issues. You can also try that.

I''m thinking Mist is the internet download\file manager since it's licence mentions Mozilla.

Don't know, but is something that was added in the Steam version.

I downloaded the version from the site and moved all the .dll files to the steam version with the replacement. And RetroArch.exe also replaced it. And deleted mist.dll
I don’t know what exactly was the key from all this, but RetroArch continued to work for me

Doing this you are using the standalone version instead of the Steam version, without Steamwork integraton. It's totally pointless.
Steam version require mist.dll, can't work without it. And as i've said previously, mist.dll and mist.exe are not compatible with Windows 7 because both use the GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime function instead of the more compatible GetSystemTimeAsFileTime.

Of course it did, if you replace the executable with one from the standalone version your are using that one, not the Steam version :)

The issue is in the Steam version.

Steam has dropped support for Windows 7 and 8:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4784-4F2B-1321-800A

Breakages like this is likely to continue with the Steam integration and eventually the Steam client itself. The only viable alternative is using the standalone release or upgrading your operating system to Windows 10 or newer.

Steam dropped it, but not Retroarch. It's still shipped with Windows 7 as minium requirement.

Also, Retroarch is still working with Windows 7, only the Steam version have issues.

(oh.. and Steam is still working on Windows 7 too).

Seriously, THAT is the solution ? Suddenly changing the minium requirements in the store page like nothing is happened ?

Highly unprofessional, i must tell you.

Anyway, i have downloaded the last working depot from Steam (manifest 6101427862167549754), replaced Mist.dll and Mist.exe with the old versions, and now Retroarch works again.

@Tharon Same problem. How did you download older Steam-version?
Tharon Jun 3, 2024 @ 2:59am
Using this command in the Steam console :

download_depot 1118310 1118311 6101427862167549754

You can open the Steam console by launching Steam with the -console parameter or typing steam://open/console in a browser. It doesn't matter if Steam is running or not.

The depot is downloaded in the folder : Steam\steamapps\content\app_1118310
