PS2 Emulator on RetroArch?

you can get the retroarch pcsx2 core by following a guide here, but it runs way worse than standalone pcsx2 so it's better to just use that.

This. The ps2 core is still experimental and buggy. You are better with the standalone ps2 emulator.

You CAN play PS2 games with the Steam version of Retroarch but many of them run at a very low fps or have major graphical glitches.
There are certain PS2 games which run just fine if you're up for a bit of trial and error.
