On the other side I believe you can add it to steam as a non-steam game and/or use some emu manager or something too.

You can still upload SS with a non-steam game or software. It's just that won't appear on your feed. You have to go to the uploaded screenshot and share it. Your friends can also see it if they go to your SS section and you can even "decorate" your profile with that uploaded SS in one (or several) of your showcases.

It worked last time and it still works. Have just tried with a non-steam game I included time ago and no issues. The ss manager pops up after you close the game/soft and you can upload it.
The ss manager says "this will be shared on your feed and your profile" however and unfortunatelly they actually removed the feed share. Nevertheless and as I've said it's still uploaded into your ss section. Go there share it and now it will be on your feed assuming that's what you want. It will be on your profile too unless you delete it.
