Gamepads are identified as "XBOX 360". How to fix it?
My Classic USB Controller-M gamepad - "Retroflag" under "SEGA" is defined as "XBOX 360" because of which all the buttons do not work and there is no way to switch the mode in the joystick itself by holding down a certain combination of buttons.

After reading about this on the Internet, I saw that for most users, any gamepads, joysticks and controllers are defined as "XBOX 360".

How to fix it, set it up?

right click retroarch on steam click properties, go to controller>override for retroarch and change it to "disable steam input".

It doesn't get any better than this.

Disabling Steam Input while having a Switch Online controller - either SNES or N64 - connected makes my RetroArch menu go havoc, as if it's receiving tons of directional input all at once. Does anyone know what causes this? With Steam Input enabled or a PS5 controller this doesn't happen at all. Super weird.
