If you mean save states F2: save F4: load. You can also select different savestates.

If you mean game saves? It depends on the game and they will save on a particular spot or after defeating a level, etc.

Please be aware that unfortunately DOSBOX-core does NOT support saves via RetroArch.

Are you sure? It should work with the save data system.

Sure. Unfortunately, pressing F2 gives you an error message stating that saves aren't supported using RetroArch, and F1 brings up a quick menu that omits the save function.

Some DOS games have the ability to save the games within the menu of the game itself.

PS2 doesnt allow save states (I think its PCSX?) which is unfortunate since it would bypass BS mechanics were you arbitrarily lose a LOT of progress after lots of grind (ex: P3 FES in the tartarus tower).

Have just tested it and ir works perfectly. Seems you forgot to scrolllock/Block: two keys after F12.

It works, the thing is ps2 cores aren't that updated as their standalones.

When in DOSBOX-core, pressing "F2", the error, "CORE DOES NOT SUPPORT SAVE STATES" appears as a toast notification. Pressing, "FN"+"SCROLL LOCK" invoked the toast notification, "GAME FOCUS ON". That mode disabled the RetroArch UI.

I'm using RetroArch on Steam and using the DOSBOX-core from the store page. Are you using the x86 version of RetroArch? Are you using the DOSBOX-core from the x86 version?

I'm on RA x64 and DOS Box Pure. Works just fine with scroll lock/block key.

Sorry, I meant the Win-64 version. There are many differences between that full version and this version on Steam. It appears that the ability to save is broken on the Steam version, then.

I'm on w10x64. If you have issues with ra's steam version just copy paste the standalone ra over steam's.

Edit: that's what I did and I'm on steam too.

Daegoth Vilfariel, thank you baby. I figured out what is going on. I'm relatively new to RetroArch and DOS. I simply picked the first DOSBOX core that was listed while using the Steam version of RetroArch, which was DOSBOX-core. I just changed the core to DOSBOX-pure, within the Steam version of RetroArch, using the core from Steam, and things are very different. Not only is the ability to save there with F2 and with the quick menu; the controls appear to be set up to be better integrated with DOS. I had just spent the entire day and part of last night setting up my control configurations for my DOS games, and I will have to redo them all, but I will gladly do this to get the save function! Thanks again! Now if I could just solve my problem with JUMPMAN running slow.

Oh don't mention it, glad you could figure it out.
Many old DOS game run at 15, 20fps at most. At least in many cases like those games you found cute and I recommended to you.
Now their remakes run at perfect 60fps but bc they are remakes. So unless you find something new the emulator will just run them at their native speed I guess.

Edit: these are the originals with 15-20fps unlike their remakes.

The last one will get its remake soon with more speed obviously.

I was able to upload my previously saved controller bindings easily. Interestingly, even though the left thumbstick button, namely, the action that happens when the thumbstick is pressed into the gamepad, is shown to be mapped to nothing in my bindings, pressing the left thumbstick toggles a beautiful, small onscreen keyboard. In DOSBOS-core, the toggle brought up a huge onscreen keyboard that filled the screen haha. Unfortunately, now I can't disable the toggle, so if I move the left thumbstick aggressively I will accidentally toggle the onscreen keyboard. First world problem.

For Jumpman, what I did was I bought the official version on Steam then copied the ROM into RetroArch since the controls are wonky in the official version. It runs fast in that official version, though. Somehow it runs super slow in RetroArch. That's ok. I have Classic Jumpan and Jumpman Lives! in RetroArch and both run fine.
