One game not showing

Im trying to play Area 88, the arcade version.
I've downloaded the rom, and did a manual scan, but it doesn't show up in my game list. I even went through the files, found and scanned it but still doesn't show up.
Any ideas?

Copypaste standalone over stem and download mame (current).

I have a bunch of games that don't show up, even in the standalone version.

Make a playlist.

Check if you've provided an arcade .dat (or .xml) file when you used manual scan
Retroarch does not recognize arcade games without that file as far as i remember
Also make sure the version of your .dat (.xml) file, your rom and your core are an exact match, otherwise the game may not run.

I ended up using the standalone version, downloading every mame core, then transferring those cores over to the system folder in the steam version of retroarch.
