Can't save ingame
I'm playing through Link to the Past (GBA version) and finished it. I have a save state backed up before the final fight. I'm trying to save in the game but a save file won't be overwritten or created in the saves folder of RetroArch. It's only until I quit the game is when a .srm file is created/overwritten and that .srm sends me back to the very first save the game ever made which is naming the character. I want to do the bonus dungeon in the game. mGBA is the emulator.

This issue also happened to me in Super Mario 64 (N64 version) but that was fixed by simply copying and erasing the copied save file as an .srm file is created by doing so. This one doesn't do such a thing no matter what is done (saving, copying, erasing, creating a new save file).

If there's no fix, is there a website for an .srm file for this game that allows to get to the final dungeon?

I'll just quote what I found on a forum. "load up the rom in visual boy advance, import the selected save file, then export the save file(only if you are trying to use the save file on flash card;ez flash iv,etc.)" - 2015, falconcrest, well-known member from gbatemp.net
