RetroArch
How do I load an in-game save???
I started playing Pokemon Crystal. I saved it in-game. I can see it in my computer as an SRM file, and no matter what I do I can't get it to load in retroarch anymore. Zero online guides have actually answered this question well, or at all. I've tried converting it to a SAV file, but it remains the same size and won't open on anything on my computer or in retroarch. I legit need a step-by-step guide on how to play my saved game. It's been super frustrating trying to figure out this issue, and nobody seems to have an answer that works that I have found in my 2 hours of digging on the internet.

While you are in game press "F1" (menu) then click "Save State" or "Load State".

Which core? Are you using a normal Poke Crystal or hacked version? And which region? Give me more to work with please.

I have the downloaded Pokemon Crystal from Vimm's Lair. I used the recommended Gambatte from the auto-detect core feature on retroarch. Like, the file exists as an SRM on my PC right now, but retroarch doesn't recognize SRM files for loading. I converted it to a SAV file, but retroarch shuts down immediately after I try to open it.

Yeah, it says it doesn't support save states.

I just tested this out with Gambatte core and I noticed that some versions saves in ".srm" and others in ".rtc". So I suggest trying the .rtc format and see if it works.

EDIT: Nevermind, it creates both .rtc and .srm. So check if both files are there.

I tried running it again, and it created both files. Maybe this was the issue since I only had the SRM file the first time? At the loss of my shiny bellsprout, I will try starting the game over. I appreciate you taking the time to figure this out. I'm (clearly) super new to computers and emulating.

The .srm extension is your save file, the .rtc extension is for the game's real time clock function.
