DS emulator not working at all

What core do you use for NDS emulation?

DeSmuMe is considered to be the best. Also it could be that this particular game can require some firmware installed.

Did you tried to launch some other DS game? The problem could be in ROM.

It is hard to pinpoint a problem with such blanket statement. For me personally DeSmuME worked perfectly fine.

tried to launch 3 different games and didn't work out.

I just tried to load DQ4 and it worked pefectly fine.

I mean, you should run the .nds file right? the games are already scanned, I load DeSmuME and when I go to the game it jus't says "failed to load content"

Then the problem could be in faulty rom. Try to find another and check if it will work on your system.

Because, as i said, for my DeSmuME works. And more so it capable to load and emulate DQ4.

Sorry, I'm really newbie with emulation, just tried load the .zip file and worked out, I was extracting the whole thing lmao thanks anyway for the help

The Desmume core is extremely outdated, you can get latest version from https://desmume.org/

I'm not sure, if you already solved the problem - but there is a bugged Dragon Quest IV rom circulating online. You just have to find a different rom. The emulator is not the problem, like the guys above suggested - it works fine.

So what exactly do I download, and how do I add it to retroarch?

How did you launch your ROMS? There is an issue where Retroarch cannot access some directories. It happened to me with FBNeo. Check this workaround https://steamcommunity.com/app/1118310/discussions/0/3455968575338348211/
