Steam\steamapps\common\RetroArch\cheats
In case you don't have them I guess you can get them from libretro's web, I used the online updater iirc.
To use them once launched the game:
main menu
Thank you for this starting off point, but now it gives me some additional questions.
I googled 'Libretro's Web' and it took me to a browser version of Retroarch. So, from there I fooled around with it but couldn't figure out how to load my ROM into that interface.
What is Libretro's web? And how do I use the online updater?
Additionally, can I create my own .cht file? I tried, I created some separate files, named them and ended in .cht and dropped them into the 'cheats' folder for my specific core I'm using, but they're not showing in the Load Cheat File option in Retroarch once I have the game running, so obviously I've got something wrong about them.
Sorry for not being that specific. I assumed you knew I was talking about retroarch official website. But in this case it seems to be github their another 'official' site.
You know how to load a rom right? Which interface do you mean?
Assuming you know how to load roms we can go on.
I was going to link ya an old thread explaining a bit about the 'normal way' but I'll give you an easier unofficial shorcut.
Get retroarch from their official site and replace it over steam's. Now you have online updater.
Now watch this, it's android but works the same with win

Tell me if this helped you.
Okay, I have retroarch official downloaded from the website, but what do you mean replace it over steam's? Like, replace the .exe with the one from the retroarch website inside the steam folder?
Okay, I've done that, then followed the video you linked. It worked! :) :) :)
wait, so that is why i was not finding an online updater on my RA, only the standalone version has it, ok, i have alot of stuff downloaded here, if i download the oficial one there and drag and drop on my steam RA folder will only add the things i dont have correct? nothing will be deleted or smt
Valve didn't allow the updater so libretro team removed it. You get the o.u. this way but will lose it once steam updates ra. You can still get it again this way.
I did that and didn't lose my stuff BUT I still recommend you to back up your folder just in case.

I'll just stick with the original, not the Steam version. I don't need the Steam version constantly updating and driving me crazy, heh.
i did it but i lost the steam options, like when i am ingame my friends can see what i am playing, how do i get that back? there is a way to get it without losing the standalone version?
You either get online updater or steam show status.
You can't have both. Pick only one.
To get it back you either replace the steam version again or use your back up as I've told you.
