Best driver to use for Retro Arch?
What is the best video driver to use for Retro Arch? I currently have kept it at GL in the menu, but is there a better driver to use that would be better for all cores?

I know you can change the driver individually for each core, but I was wondering if it was better to put it at a different one in the actual Retro Arch menu.

OpenGL is already pretty stable. Vulkan has some hicups with a few cores and DirectX should be fine for the most part.

So you are saying to keep it on GL?

Thank you. Seems to be working fine right now. I got a bunch of cores working with Retro Arch on Steam. Even Dolphin works great. Only core that doesn't seem to work that good is PCSX2. It works, but it crashes when I try to restart a game in it and when I exit Retro Arch, I have to go into task manager and stop the RetroArch process.

So, it might be best to use standalone RetroArch, or even just standalone PCSX2 for Playstation 2. Other than that, everything is working fine.

I haven't signed up for RetroArch achievements yet, but I don't know if it is really worth it. I am not all that gung ho on achievements anyway.

Hi ! No it depend on the core and the game some will crash with OpenGL and not with Vulkan and the true is of course totally true too.

Directx it depend...for some games on cores i have notice weird things i think to Tomb raider 2 for the render of the water on dx11 with is....black. (Lara's home level ndrl).

Most of playstation games was built on OpenGL. Normal judging where the ps2 came from and his internal OS. (derivated from Linux so....OpenGL).

Depen also HEAVILY on the grazphics card you use.
If Nvidia you can just use everything is very good in internal drivers (dx9 until dx12 , same specially for OpenGL and Vulkan).

For AMD cards even recent i advertise rather for performance Vulkan. OpenGL is a bit bad...we of course it will depend your cg.

Nowadays it's better implementation for Yuzu by example. But yes it depend.

Smae goes for PPSSPP , Vulkan is better in performance but due to his more recent construction it 's possible it could have some glitchs.

Vulkan is the evolution of OpenGL fyi (sort of OpenGL++++ )

I use DX11 or DX12 for PCSX2 and no problems so far well not hardware wise at least.

I have been using DX11 for PCSX2. However, I have kept it at OpenGL for pretty much everything else. Hasn't presented me any issues. I have an RTX 3070 TI. So performance isn't really an issue.

I don't really have any stability issues. The only issue I have is when using PCSX2 with RetroArch on Steam. When I try to exit out of RetroArch, the RetroArch process continues to run until I go into to Task Manager and stop the process.

Do you have this issue as well?

Don't use the RetroArch on steam.

Navigate to 'Settings> Core>' and set ' Allow Cores to Switch the Video Driver' to 'ON'.

Why? If the only reason is because the steam version don't have the online updater then it's not a very good reason.
