Compatibility with emulated games already sold on steam?
Basically Sega and some other companies (Capcom, SNK) already sell their classic games in rom format on steam. Naturally their provided emulators are trash (except SS5 one).
Will this be easily compatible with those games?
Like if I own Golden Axe on steam, can steam version of retroarch automatically pick it up and run it without manually fiddling with the files?

Have you considered such a feature?

Depends on the game. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Classic games should work fine as they're not compressed. Others like Mega Man Legacy, Mega Man X Legacy, and the Disney Afternoon Collections won't be able to find the files. The data for the games is all there, it's just that it's not easily to get to.

The emulator depends on the core. I honestly just hope for 3 button SEGA Megadrive controller compatibility.

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure there are cores supporting genesis, psx and neo-geo games.
And SNK neo-geo games sold on steam come bundled with bios files, so I assume it's perfectly legal to run them through 3rd party emulator.

I suggest the retroarch team make a Steam Curators page and make a list of all the games on Steam that includes compatible ROMs.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 and both Mega Man X Legacy Collections are native ports.

If you mean the PlayStation games, that might be possible as the shape button prompts in options would likely need to be changed and the cutscenes might have been redone to make them look better, but the NES and SNES games are the ones I'm not as convinced about. From what I've seen, there's nothing on those games such as cutscenes being added to those games to lead me to believe they were further polished. Take a look at Mega Man III's stage select screen. There is an oddity on the left and right sides of Top Man's name and the lower row of frames look off compared to the upper row of frames.

I think what they mean is supposedly the MegaMan collection games were effectively re-written from the assembly code so that they're actually native executable files using a new engine, instead of ROMs running with an emulator: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/251956/How_Digital_Eclipse_aims_to_preserve_classic_games_for_future_generations.php

I haven't seen anything that would suggest such an undertaking actually occurred, and I wouldn't be surprised if what they really did was just build their own emulator and wrapped the bare ROMs inside it.

The ROM images are in the game files, just not in .nes format and the order of the PRG-ROM and CHR-ROM reversed.

That is a custom emulator and as already said the prg and chr roms are separated, but it is emulation, not a port.

Looks like the Rock Man SEGA Genesis release with added assets.

I have a screenshot of the same NES glitch which I took shortly after release:

I can confirm they are the same.

Only if it's a Resident Evil game. Resident Evil 4 was on Gamecube, Wii, Switch, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, iphone/ipad, Android, and Zeebo (whatever that is). :alphys: Then again, maybe that's just how they do Resident Evil in general. Likewise, the original Resident Evil 2 was on PlayStation, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Gamecom, Gamecube, and PC.

Yeah, the same company that censored and sold SF5 in parts, put p2w mtx into DMC5 and killed off Megaman Legends 3.
You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain. Current capcom is one of the worst video game companies, losing only to the likes of EA and Activision.

Well, Capcom has made some ♥♥♥♥ up's recently. But in comparison to what they have done for some things, I guess its just every day business.
For Capcom, they win some, they lose some. https://i.imgur.com/PpMpG1j.gif
