RetroArch

RetroArch

Please create a new core for all Steam/PC games
I understand the use for Retroarch is mainly for emulators of old systems, and in turn using those emulators for playing rom files or old computer games, but why not take Retroarch in a new direction and allow people to use it with new PC games.

For instance, Steam itself, or something that recognizes windows exe files, could be a core.

We then could use any modern PC game with Retroarch. The main point of this would be using Retroarch to add shaders/effects to modern PC games. Examples for use would be some of the modern style retro games could be used with Retroarch shaders. Of course by doing this, new shaders/effects may have to be created, but I think it would be something worth experimenting with or looking into.

Open Lara is still in its experimental stages. Not sure what else to list either.

And DOSBox has a core of its own already.

Bump, that's really dumb.

To do what you propose would require that the games run outside the RetroArch program and the "core" be designed to run like the SteamOS display driver.

It would be nice to be able to use RetroArch as a frontend for all games, instead of Big Picture.

It would also be nice if I could get CRT Royale working with some of my Steam games. It doesn't seem to be supported in ReShade.

Well you could just use Playnite instead of RetroArch for that if you want everything in one place

You can just download some shader mod, IE enb or sweetFX. Doing what you propose here is stupid. Plain and simple. Retro arch is for emulation.

I personally prefer the interface of RetroArch, and some frontends.

Also, I've had problems getting my desktop to launch Big Picture while I'm in VR. Well, you see, I like playing games while I'm in VR sometimes, via OVR Toolkit, and Oculus Dash while I was still using it. Being able to lay around in bed in VR, while hanging out with friends is kind of nice.

But just moving between things with my gamepad, instead of a wireless keyboard or mouse is nice. But I can't play my PC games while in RetroArch, or switch to my capture card, or anything else, without getting up and getting the keyboard. Or try to navigate using VR controls, which is less than ideal at times.

I suppose with some polishing, I would like Big Picture more. But I get the feeling I would always be wanting something.

Does Playnite let me move around and open things with gamepad? Is it better than EmulationStation, Launchbox, or other frontends?
