Why 2B. 9S, A2, etc looks like Nier, Kaine, Emil? Fanservice or deeper connection?
I never player Nier prior Automata, just reed some stuff few years ago, so its my 1st play session... and im somewhere in a middle. But when i started playing Replicant i noticed that overall design of 2B and 9S very much based on design of young Nier mixed with Emil and design of Kaine!

I should note that i have not finished automata yet too, and was waiting years for patch to come (hopefully after 4 years waiting is almost done) and i quit playing it somewhere in a middle of story and hopefull will continue soon or even will restart game after finishing Replicant and finally getting the patch..

So i dont know how much both games really connected besides both games happening in same world and besides few characters like Emil and Devola and Popola or their copies re-appearing thousands of years later.

But thats not important now, i dont want to know whole story now, i just want to know - if there is some explaination or some hidden tips and clues both in Replicant and Automata about design of YohRa androids and why they looks like main characters of original Nier?

So is it justified by story story something like - some survivng character from Nier Replicant made an android copies of characters they knew, or maybe they got scanned by someone\something or became some famous leaders of humanity so their likeness was used later in serial production of androids?

Maybe there is some time travel involved?

Or design just look familiar as fan service and just followed style of original game without deeper meaning and explaination?

Eye patches or visors looks like original Emil's in Replicant.

9S looks almost like young Nier in black with Emil's hair style and eye cover,

A2 very much resembles Kaine... in black and with longer hairs, also there is some touch of older Nier in her look like if she is their doughter that looks more like Kaine.

2B looks like some sort of interpolation of Kaine and young Nier like if she is their doughter that combined both of their looks with more of younger Nier influence.

Also Adam and Eve had very much older Nier + Kaine look.

There is also something from Yonah in them.

Also robots in Automata has heads that very much resembles transformed Emil head... and Aliens heads also looked very much like some organic altered versions of Emil's head.

And i have not finished yet playing so probably this is explained later, but i remember cutscene where one of robot's heads was crack opened and it had emils head inside.

So is there some deeper connection between new and old characters and some story of why everyone in future looks and feels like them? Or it just a fanservice and common style without deep meaning?

Something interesting is because A2 is technically part of a prototype line and 2B is a more up to date version of the same thing, A2 and 2B actually share the same face but have different hair styles, and A2 doesn't wear anything to cover her eyes.

I feel like if the Scanner models such as 9S are based on the appearance of kid NieR, then the lines A2 and 2B are part of are probably based on adult Yonah's appearance. It's possible that although Kaine wasn't used as inspiration for the appearance of either of these models, her personality might have been somewhat of a contribution to both. It's more subtle for 2B, who hides her emotions behind a facade of icy cold apathy. However, A2 is more blunt and to the point, hiding her empathy behind a more hot headed apathy more in line with Kaine.

Emil might have also somewhat been a piece of the inspiration behind all YoRHa units in the form of their headbands, but that's just speculation.

What I find to be particularly odd is the similarity behind Yonah's name, NieR's name, and YoRHa. Maybe I'm overthinking things but starting with Yonah, if you take the R in NieR, replace the n in Yonah with it to get YoRah, flip the a and h around to get YoRha, and then make the h capital, you end up with YoRHa. ...Yeah, that's probably a load of nonsense.

I still dont get why robots and aliens has emil-compatible round heads? 1st encounter of emil actually happened when we destroyed robot and Emile was inside robot head!

How Emile got inside robot head? why it was a perfect fit? why he was not emil until the point we destroyed robot????????

Is there any connection between Emil, Aliens and Robots???????????? Did Emil create fake aliens and robots after his image just to cover up himself and hide the fact he created robots?

Why Emil lost his body and barely remembers things? Is that real emile of also a robot that replicates Emil?

Who created Androids? Are they purely aritifical or there is some portion of human brain inside or at least was in 1st models??? Why do they behave like they are alive, and robots not???

There will be MUCH more things after 9S walkthrough, since the story doesn't end with defeating of Eve - there will be subsequent YoRHa attack on machines, the appearance of their main network, A2 storyline (and you can learn all about her past) and all that.
Also you can learn more about Emil if you find all Lunar Tears and visit his underground home as 2B/9S, the one of pipes in the city pit leads there (try to steal some stuff there if you want creepy and painful boss fight).

Yep, I don't like the quest thing either, they could at least warn or something... Fortunately, you can select chapters after you get three main endings and complete all the quests. Nevermind the causal relationships broken - we have it since the first Drakengard. And I wonder if I can do it in Replicant as well (had to restart after my first try just in case). Oops, you probably haven't seen it yet, but there will be a quest-killing breaking point too))
Not sure about Yonah though. But I think I've already killed more robots in that damn Junk Heap than 2B in Automata, this game is almost Drakengard in terms of absurd grind...

i heard about boss fight after stealing, but will you kill emil during it or it will end before dies? will he re-appear after that? Also what about GIAN EMIL HEADS in desert??? Will they be a boss fight at some point? If yes - what is condition to fight them - is there any way to learn about them without fighting them?

You haven't noticed something about Devola and Popola in regards to their looks in Replicant and Automata. In Replicant they look more human, where as in automata they look more doll like.

Yoko Taro's already covered even android sexuality in interviews before, apparently they can have genitals installed for recreational purposes, though they are unable to reproduce. Whether this is because of their soulless nature or because of hardware/biology concerns, I'm not sure it's been answered before.

I'd imagine it's probably due to them not being true biological entities, but it's also possible that this is by design among YoRHa units. If they could reproduce then they might feel a need to take care of their pregnant or young instead of fight in the war they were made for. Additionally, the war was intended to remain a stalemate to give Machines and Androids a reason to exist, and as such, making sure YoRHa units are unable to reproduce on their own and must be built serves the purpose of preventing overpopulation, and therefore keeps YoRHa forces from gaining the sheer numbers needed to annihilate the machines once and for all. After all, Androids are much stronger than Machines.

Given the wide range and intensity of emotions, logic, and sanity Replicants and Androids are capable of though, one does start to wonder if they are truly soulless, or if Devola and Popola are simply misinformed. It could simply be a lie that Devola and Popola units are fed to help ensure they are willing to carry out the purpose they were made for. After all, if they were truly soulless, then what defines a soul? What other than their flesh makes a human "human" and Replicants and Androids not?
