Can we expect to see Linux support for IXION?

Demo ran okay with slight issues through Proton. Their company website states that they're an "all platform" developer, including Linux.

Edit: When I tested the Demo it basically ran in the single digit framerate in the menu already. So I didn't even bother trying the demo gameplay itself.

Any news of these plans now that the game is released?

Has anyone tried the game on Proton?
I swear its the same 4 people on every forum. Do you auto post soon as something new is listed? Your the .0001% even if it does manage to barely work no one is testing it and its going to fail at some point. Its like buying an Xbox game and constantly asking if it works on PS5.

It is the same people. Thats all they do is spam every single game with the same outdated and irrelevant crusade. They don't participate in any game related discussion.

And even though a linux port is no longer needed due to proton. They use any reply from developers as content for the OP's basement publication.

Even a porting company like Feral says the following. (see twitter post link below)

We will continue to assess the feasibility of porting games to Linux, but there is generally less demand for native titles since Valve’s launch of Proton.

"VALVe cut the demand for our services on Linux titles, and we don't see the point in updating them since the magic thing exists. Just use the Windows version."

Imagine.. this is from a linux porting company… “Just use the windows version”

And let’s not forget Forbes magazine:

Despite two straight years of incredible advancements in Linux gaming — specifically Proton, the compatibility layer that lets us easily run thousands of Windows games on Linux — there has been a negligible increase in Linux gaming adoption. As marketing-centric scribe James Mawson so poignantly states, it’s a “growth so feeble, it’s difficult to separate from statistical noise; Linux isn’t even a serious threat to the Mac in this space.”

As Valve’s informative 2020 recap points out, an increase in developers testing their games against Proton (without needing to invest huge time and resources into developing native ports)

Linux ports are on the decline.. Linux gaming is on the rise..

Crusading for a linux port in 2022 is an exercise in futility.

The game is written in cross-platform "Unity" what prevents developers from simply checking the box to build under Linux when building the game? For example, I never buy games where there is no native port for Linux. And if you look on youtube, you will see that there are about 4,000,000 people with Linux playing games)

The fact that Unitys Multiplattform capabilities suck ;)
But even so - the very least i expect is an official commitment to keep the game working in Proton, if it's too late to consider multiplatform properly.
Native versions are of course the ideal outcome, but not if they are just exported from a windows-unity-game at the end of development.
Multi-Platform has to ideally be done from the start to yield a high quality outcome.

So tbh - i prefer a dev commiting to proton over one that just drops a broken linux build and calls it a day...

The demo ran with like 5 FPS in the main menu for me, probably not utilizing the GPU correctly, if at all. Didn't bother to try the actual game as horrid performance was the general report from others.
I mean it runs on my Steam Deck no problem using Proton, so presumably any tweaking to a WINE prefix would be pretty minimal, but I can't speak to native support as my main gaming rig is a Windows PC

Thank you for this post. I really didnt know that when people asked for Linux Port, they didnt mean Proton. This is good information, thanks for typing it.
runs good with proton, but a native port would be nice. or maybe try to activate the vulkan renderer in the windows build, this could bring a performance boost for proton.
