for me the best is mushroom but i love to play with 6 sectros and over 5000 population
That means you can get all 5200-odd pops fed from about 44 Insect farms, for a cost of 352 workers and 220 power. Note, this is without adding in the bonus from specialisation. FAR more resource intensive than the 2-3 fully upgraded Algae farms you can get away with later on, but they also require no other inputs. Algae farms are perfect for when you produce enough waste.
That's true but you can use waste to run the water reclamation plant.
I like to have at least two Insect Farms in *every sector* so the sector can be somewhat self-sufficient for a few cycles if something goes horribly wrong in my food production sector. Throw up a Mushroom wall in a sector or two and everybody stays happy and fed.
just put most non worker/colonists in 1-2 sectors, set to lower food consumption. done. you just cut your total needed food by 25% if not more.
the Mess hall upgrade are literally your biggest upgrade to 1 food per people fed ratio, so focus on that.
1 food is 10 people, with the upgrade mess hall its 1 food 20 people. and you get a +25% (-25% used) on top if you set to low usage.
basically you need 1 food for 25 people.
1 farm is doing some 40-50 food, so that's enough for 1250 people, and faster with techs.
I turn off my food production buildings (3 algae farms) and water treatment until food is around 200 (I had a big stockpile, and a medium one for it). whenever I do this my sectors get clog up with waste, so I just activate the water treatment center until I refill my food stockpiles, then turn them off again.
If you do it in this manner you can sustain yourself with the water treatment center, just make sure there is a stockpile near to it with waste so it can restock before the cycle is over. And have the sector maintain at least 50 waste.
If you're looking for an example of my food sector, here[i.imgur.com]
I am trying to avoid micro-managing it, I want it to run by itself, it should be self efficient
IMHO the tech tree is not really thought-out, as you don't need half of the tech.
I hear there is a bug for cell housing which is preventing us from running water treatment center full time + recyclers. I have another thread on this topic and there is a post of screenshots with insane amount of waste with a lot less population from what I tested with so far
