Here is an idea, warp gates
New building to allow faster movement from warp gate to warp gate. After running the infinite wave for 240ish turns. Mined all the resources around turn 220 and collecting all the ships, weapons and modules drops around the same time. Not too bad from my second game. But I find my main fleet boringly slow.

So... the only question I have is the campaign worth trying?

Only one way to find out ^^! Its up to you what your taste is and if you like it or not. If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't. I don't think you need anyone elses permission to like or dislike something. I've often been told certain pieces of media, games or movies were not enjoyable. Then I tried them myself anyway, and I did like them. Or vice versa. So you never know until you try!

About the warp gates; yes we could add those at some point. Right now you can already place Jump Beacons, and after creating a Jump Command as well you can jump ALL SELECTED UNITS to the Jump Beacon. Even if that jump beacon is placed all the way across the map.

Perhaps not warp gates acting similar to current jump command, but acceliration tunnels that will work similar to Freelancer's gates/routes? Basically any ship in a "tunnel" between two connected gates will have a massive speed boost?

May be even working for both allies and enemies? We can also add Zabu gates this way as an additional interactable feature in envirenment?

Could even be shown the same way as our current warp jump. But then we could just make the gate, aim the gate, then have players right click the gate to jump in the direction the gate is aiming. If we do that with the same sound effect and flashes we currently have that could sound sick
