Gives you more of a incentive to not be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to other people.
it goes like this: you rank up, however the choice was wrong, it reverses.
then you just talk to them to fix it and you're back on track, depending on what scenario it is it might not even consume time, for example I broke the bond with Ai at one point, the next day simply talked to her on the first floor to amend things, she goes away when you do but you don't use up the afternoon, so you can still do something else
i thought they'd be more tragic
You can reverse Moon by telling Ai that her rejection of that one dude was "downright cruel" on her Rank 3.
You can also reverse it by telling her "Not gonna happen!" when she asks you to ask the sports team S.L representative what kinda girls they like.
If you choose to date her immediately and go down the temporary relationship path, you can break it by telling her "We need time apart."
The only other link that can reverse is Fortune. Telling Naoto "You're on your own." on I think her Rank 4 does it.
And breaking social link with Ai is permanent and this will carry to NG+.
Also reverse can happen when you date 2 different girls and you get catched, during sunday hang out.
In P4 they thankfully gave you the option to set things as 'just friends' or 'romance'. I thought perhaps they'd removed reversals... until I also got one with Ai for the exact same situation. I've kind of just left her off to the side though, as I'm fairly late game and I'm focusing on party member links.
Wow... that's dumb. They should have fixed that. Or is there some story reason why... like alternate universe memory. "He was a jerk to me in another life!"
Reversing Social link doesnt lower the rank. It stops you from progressing further until you fix it by talking with character.
Breaking social link on the other side is destroying him completly, lower rank to 0 and game starts to threat it as it doesnt exist at all. You cant repair broken social link in 4.
