Anyone else think that fishing is impossible?

I've started trying to do the fishing minigame for the sake of the Hermit Social Link - I know the bait, the wave when they appear, I also read both the books of fishing, but when it comes to the part to reel in, it's just impossible. I tried to play it with controller first, then practiced on keyboard as well, but the results are the same for me. I keep holding the Action button in the blue zone while trying to balance it into the middle, but then suddenly it just jumps into the red zone and stays there for a second. Sometimes the fast reel shows up, but rarely, and usually not when I'm getting close to the victory. All these are really adding up and turns this whole minigame to more or less a lottery. It's not even the Sea Guardian, which I heard is more difficult to catch (and unfortunately it's also part of the social link requirement). Any ideas what can be done differently?

I could only do it by repeatedly tapping the spacebar as opposed to holding it.

Same with with Persona 5, I was tapping the button and it worked better for me.

I legit JUST finally got these fish. Its crazy we have to get BOTH fish. I found this minigame WAY easier in 5. If it helps, I ended up using a controller and it worked better for me but its STILL really difficult. This is practically the final boss of Golden with how hard it is.

Just in case you were making the same mistake I did when I first tried fishing: only press the reel in button/key when the arrow is in the blue area. Don't continually hold down the button the entire time while trying to move the arrow.

I think fishing in this game is really easy... I feel sorry for people having a hard time with this... try practicing with easier fish... then try the guardian.

You gotta get the "feel" of it. It's like dancing, super easy once you get used to it. Like in post #1, I tap the button on the blue too. Focus more on keep the bobber centered around the orange part, the wiggle along to the blue area and then tap the reel button. The fish will pull the opposite way and never really hard pulls towards the same red side twice.

The trick is to completely ignore the in-game instructions and never HOLD the button. When the cursor is in the blue area, only press / tap it once quickly, and repeat whenever you have it aligned in the center there. Knowing how to properly do it instead of trying to go by the instructions that the game gives you will make catching the guardians super easy.

And since you've read the both books, I suggest holding one finger over that button that lets you instantly reel the fish in and hit it as soon as you see the prompt. It ends the fishing session right away and guarantees the capture.

just takes practice. the fishing game in stardew valley is arguably even worse.

The mechanics are pretty wonky, but you can get used to it faster when you realize the spacebar isn't supposed to be held down as the tutorial implies. It does a terrible job of explaining this.

TAP the spacebar to open up the field of blue and as you keep the cursor inside of that field.

Ok after hours of trying I'm literally no closer at all to catching that stupid guardian fish. It's almost impossible to keep the bobber in the blue area for more than a second as it randomly zips form one red end to the other staying there for almost 5sec at a time. Even with the quick reel I can't get the fish closer than the middle and that only for about a second before it goes back to the far end. Also I don't know what you are saying about tapping insted of holding. I tried it but it does nothing only by holding the space bar for a few secs does the fish move at all closer. F fishing and f the guy who thoght it was a good idea to tie it to quests and Social Links!

This. Out of other fishing "mini" games, it's on the easier parts. Just be sure to take a breath every time the blue bar gets too small and allign your cursor to the middle, so you can nearly instantly resume reeling the fish in again.

(I found the bug catching thing worse, you got way less room of error for that one...)

Only hold the button for a moment. You will lose control, just get it back in the center again and then hold again for a brief moment. If even that is too difficult, do as others suggest and tap. I prefer holding for a moment though.

It can be a bit confusing at first... but believe me it is SO much better than the PS2 version! You had to mash the button, and then occasionally a QTE prompt appears, then go back to mashing. It was terrible.

Just keep your eye above your head (right on that leaf) and wait for the exclamation mark. I wouldn't say the fishing is hard, once you get the hang of it, but I find the fishing was harder to get the hang of.

I really don't get it, the moment I press the bottom the bobber will shoot all the way left/right it's almost impossible to hold it in place for more than one or two seconds and with the blue bar shrinking I can't make any progress. The guardian barely leaves the far end of the screen and even if I somehow manage to get him a bit closer the moment I stop pressing he almost instantly goes back to the far end. I also watched a few YT videos on it but I can't for the live of me replicate them at all. Once again f fishing!

Have you read the fishing books? I haven't caught the SEA Guardian yet, but I did catch the RIVER Guardian (multiple) with no problem.

EDIT: May I also suggest that you keep your eyes on the bar the entire time? I don't pay any attention to anything other than the bar at the bottom as its just a distraction.

Yes I have read both books and I have caught all the normal fish without any problem the guardian on the other hands is just impossible. I just want to be done with this so I can enjoy the rest of the game...
