[RESOLVED] Crashing after logos (Steam Deck)

This issue has been resolved by me using ProtonUP-QT from the discover store and downloading Proton GE7-42, setting that as the forced compatibility, and waiting a good 10 minutes for the game to launch. Please follow those same steps if you are having the same trouble that I had.


I've looked pretty much everywhere (including protondb) for a solution to this. Any possible solutions would be nice, even repeat solutions.

After installing, depending on proton version the game will either refuse to launch, or crash after the atlus logo loading into the intro cutscene Shadow World.

I've done the steam troubleshooting (uninstall-reinstall, verify integrity, etc etc) more than once and that didn't work, woo hoo.

The game is currently uninstalled but will be reinstalled when someone gives me any solution. and I mean ANY. I will even try stupid crap as long as it isn't deleting my entire operating system.

Sadly I've been put into the infamous game boot loop. Even in desktop mode, using GE7-42 makes the game just not run at all. Can't even get to the logos.

I used to be able to run it fine before. I haven't ran it on steamdeck in a few weeks and I seem unable to get past the loading screen now. I get "application has crashed''.

Update. The infamous game boot loop was infact not a boot loop. It was instead the game taking 10 minutes to load from the first launch. Yippee

Sounds like it was tking a while to cache shaders.
I'm curious if anyone has managed to get the game running with the current CEP mods. Been trying to get it to launch fo a while now, but it crashes after logo every time for me now.

Wasn't because of shader caching. It's because of the opening intro "Shadow World," a purely shader-less animated cutscene. Cutscene was killing it every time.

Also, try using Proton GE7-42. thats what worked for me to get the cutscenes working. The deck will take it's time to load for the first time, around 10 minutes. Give it a while and grab a coffee or something, come back later, and hope it works. Sorry for not having a conclusive way to fix it

It's when I add the CEP mod pack that I get the crashes. Ran flawlessly for me without them. Buuut I'd rather play with the mods considering how many times I played this one before it came to PC. lol

never even thought about using CEP. I guess the game just has different ideas on how it should run based on the person

XD This is my favorite mod. https://gamebanana.com/mods/9653 I've never been a big fan of Nanako, not a big fan of the idea of being in that big brother role etc and I kind of found her annoying. I know! Controversial opinion. lol But for me she was the worst part of the game. This mod? Makes me smile every time she's on screen and let me actually enjoy her as a character more. lol

But there are tons of silly little mods like this. Or other time saver's etc.

oh my dear lord. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thats hilarious. i might need to figure out how to mod p4g on steam deck to get this to work. this would make it worth replaying the game just to see a slightly disapointed nanako but with no nose and huge lips.

Currently with the current anti piracy DRM they added to an update for the game it's not possible to get it to work under linux it seems. You'll either need to wait for the upcoming patch and hope. Or pirate an older version unfortunately. Personally hate needing to run cracked versions of things I own due to DRM. Was very disappointed when I went to pick it up again on my deck only to find out it didn't work anymore.
But if you want to check out mods start with CEP it patches a bunch of bugs out and has a ton of other quality of life fixes. https://p4g.cep.one/
