Contrarian King???

First time Persona player here, I'm playing on normal. So far It's been fine and I've learnt to counter enemy weaknesses while trying to avoid the type of damage they do.

I'm up to the Contrarian King (after finishing the castle the first time around) and the fight is pretty straight forward, but he wipes out my entire party with rampage every single time and I don't really understand how I'm possibly supposed to counter this?

I keep his attack reduced via debuff, and my MC has physical damage reduction from slime, got him to around 10% a few times but the second he decides to use Rampage It's just instant game over. Any tips? I genuinely have no idea what I'm missing here

That boss will kick your teeth in. No workarounds, no talking, no cheesing, no weakness.

2 options, grind really good, then when you can wipe the floor with the entire second dungeon, grind some more, then gets some really broken skills that are allowed on your level, then grind a little more.

Or

Finish the second dungeon, grind a little on the third, then backtrack to the first one, if you are lucky, you can get the magician card in shuffle time, and they can upgrade your Resist Physical into Null Physical.

The boss is really that broken since his rampage skill is stronger than normal The earlier you get the boss defeated, the better, since when an optional boss is defeated, they usually drop a cool weapon somewhere in the room you defeat him. If you are too late to defeat the boss, the weapon you get should not be that useful anymore,that does also count to Yosuke's shadow area.

debuff him with sukunda and buff your party with sukukaja. this way you reduce the odds to get hit.

for damage you should use the strongest ice and electric magic available for your level.

What is your average party level?

You could try some of these:

1. Reduce difficulty to take less damage
2. Use a persona resistant to Physical (e.g. Obariyon)
3. Stock up on items that mass buff (e.g. Super Sonic) and revive (e.g. Revival Bead). Heal and mass heal items might be useful, though characters often get killed outright

The secret bosses that appear in boss chambers after defeating the story bosses are like mini super bosses. You aren't necessarily meant to take them down right away, though you certainly can, and you are rewarded if you manage to do it. My suggestion is to simply leave it for now, level a bit going through the second dungeon, then come back to it once you are stronger, the rewards will probably still be relevant at that point. Other suggestions here are also good though.

That’s what im doing lol, make sure to go back to yosukes area, his weapon is there and you dont have to fight a extra boss

how do i get there exactly? every time i go back to the tv world, only thing i can do is talk to teddy to go to the current dungeon

During my most recent playthrough (an Izanagi-only run, no less), he never used Rampage. I think that part of the reason, aside from Sukunda-ing the boss, was using those three Diamond Shields you get from going through the game for the first time. Of course, the team was around level 20 or so anyway.

The more I dig into this game, the more interesting the enemy AI (at least for bosses) become, and I'd be willing to bet that there are ways to cheese them like with CK.

honestly i went back and the boss died easily and the weapon was outdated, i don’t think its worth it

Man I've tried this again recently and the rampage still one shots, such a horribly designed boss

If you are early stage, Eligor is nice.
Anything that resists Physical for Yu, then mbe some def/acc buffs!
I did it before even going to the next dungeon so I know you can do it~
