Persona 4 Golden

Persona 4 Golden

Statistiche:
Am I the only one who likes the Japanese voices?
I love the English dub for this game, but I feel like I'm also one of the few people who cares about the OG Japanese voices, too. Like, I feel like most of the Persona fanbase kinda hates the Japanese cast/voices in the games, or doesn't care about them. Of course, I am not forcing you guys to like them, but I'm just really curious on your opinions on the Japanese voices for the characters. When I saw people rejecting Q2 just for the fact it didn't have a dub, I felt a little distraught that they wouldn't give the Japanese voices a chance. And it is a 3DS game that was released when people stopped buying that system in favor for the Switch, there was a 70% chance it wouldn't get a US release, so we should be happy it got brought over here anyway. With that out of the way, I'll post my opinions on each character's Japanese voice in Persona 4.

Yu: It's fine from what I've heard of the Golden anime. It doesn't sound too different from Johnny Yong Bosch, IMO. It also sounds quite handsome, too bad I didn't hear that much of it. 7/10

Yosuke: While I'm a little more familiar with his English voice, I really like his Japanese voice. It sounds very nice for the character, and he has a lot of emotion into his performance. 8/10

Chie: Honestly, Chie's Japanese voice is my favorite of all her voices. It doesn't sound too dopey and grandma-like unlike her first English voice, or too annoying and ear-grating unlike her second English voice. It sounds very cute, very sporty, and very cheerful.... yet most people ignore it and argue between her weird English voices. And to add it all up, her seiyuu voiced Hanekawa from Bakemonogatari, Felix from Re:Zero, and many more awesome anime characters! Chie's Japanese voice really deserves more love, in my opinion. 9/10

Yukiko: Like Yu, she doesn't sound that different from her English voice. While I prefer her English voice, her Japanese voice is okay, but not really much of emotion. 6/10

Kanji: He's no Troy Baker or even Matt Mercer, but he sure does fit Kanji quite a lot, Tomokazu Seki does a great job at doing Japanese Kanji, and does just a good job at giving him his personality. Still, I'm more familiar with Troy and his replacement, but I still really like Seki's performance. 8/10

Rise: My least favorite voice of the subbed voices. I don't hate the voice itself and I love Rie Kumigiya, but she was quite miscast here, or the director pushed her to sound too high-pitched and upbeat, which didn't fit the character's looks. Compared to Laura Bailey, whose voice fit the character very well and didn't sound too annoying. I don't know, I think that Megumi Nakijima (voice provider of GUMI) could have been a better Japanese voice for Rise. I will admit it though.... Rie is a better voice for Rise than Ashley Burch, and her version of True Story is pretty good. 4/10

Naoto: Like Chie, I prefer Naoto's Japanese voice, although this time I don't dislike the English voice. But still, I think Naoto's Japanese voice is better at being very boyish, the English voice made her sound too feminine, which kind of ticked me off. 7/10

Teddie: Sounds very cute, fits him and his nature a whole lot, I like it! This time, I think the Japanese actor and Sam are a big tie. If I had to choose though, I'd choose Sam because his voice is a little more softer to me. 8/10

Marie: Kana Hanazawa, nuff said! This may just be a voice actor bias, but I kind of prefer her over the English version. She did a pretty good job at protraying her, too. 8/10

What do you think of the Japanese voices for this game? My favorite is Yui Horie as Chie, she really deserves more love and attention than she gets.

I personally love the Japanese voice actors for this game as well. My personal favorite would be Yukiko, as she was both my favorite girl I chose to date in the game and loved her voice actor. As for the other characters, I agree that they are so much fun and that they fit their characters very well. I did play the game with dub as well just out of curiosity and thought that the English dub was pretty good. However, I did like the Japanese voice acting better :p4g_love:
I always play with Japanese voice-overs if it's original for that game (if the game came from Japan or if the cast is better than original like in Genshin Impact).
My main issue with JP voiceover in P4G is that Atlus didnt bothered too much with quality control and compressed JP voiceovers so hard, it's really noticeable ingame.
It can be partially fixed with mod (partially because voiceover file format has size limitations and some lines had to stay compressed to make it into final size. And Atlus hasn't bothered to fix that too). But it's a real shame that developer is so lazy that players have to fix the game instead.
"Am I the only-"
No, you are not the only person no matter how you finish that sentence
Also you're playing a weeb game, tons of people are going to use the JP voices

Japanese voice, good. Low quality Japanese voice audio, bad.
I play with the english voice, because I can't play it without yosuke's english va
For me personally I prefer the audio language that comes from wherever the movie/game came from. It’s original to them and usually dubs are a plain miss for me. However, Persona 4 and 5 made this an exception for me as I’ve already bonded so much with the English voices that it would feel weird changing the language. I’ve also heard that the Japanese audio isn’t as good in this game but I’ve yet to test it.
Teddy is fking annoying.

What he said, about half of the people play it on Jp dub, maybe even more.

Hell, I personally only know one guy that prefers the Eng dub besides me, the rest prefer the Jp dub because it's that good.

only normies with ♥♥♥♥ taste play with dub lul
Original language is almost always better.
The Japanese VA is good. The thing is that I rarely find good english voice acting in this kind of anime like games. And the English VA in Persona 4 is freaking good. I listen to their voice and I think of them as characters and not as someone that's reading a script.
The only VA that I would not mind they change is Naoto, it's like listening to a radio soap opera.
Also Persona 5 has great English VA (the big reason I automatically played in english that time, because not every dialogue had subtitles. In the end I made a wise decision. It's grate in English.)
Its set in Japan so hearing awful US accents would be immersion breaking. The only JRPG I preferred the English dub was Bravely Default 2.
I almost always play everything in the original VA language. This game has a really good English dub, unlike most games, so I didn't really mind using it when I didn't have a choice. I still really dislike Chie's voice enough that it makes me choose not to use the English dub when I have a choice. Her voice in English is probably my least favourite but her voice in Japanese is probably one of my favourites.

People hate on Rise's Japanese voice all the time, but I think it goes fine with her idol personality. I think a lot of people maybe just don't know that much about Japanese idol stuff so it seems weird.
