where do i get fishing rod?

i'm at 7/17 and i still haven't gotten a way to get fish for cat quests. did i screw something up or i also have to read all fishing books?

As my memory serves: you need to exchange drinks or snacks with the boy at the shrine to get bugs, later you'll get a bug net. When you have bugs you need to talk to gramps at the riverbank.

To add to the previous answer: After getting the bug, you need to go to the bar in Shopping Street South and talk to the owner.
You'll trade your bug for the fishing hook. After that, go to the riverbank and give gramps the hook to receive the fishing rod.

i talked to the kid but he wants me to catch a bug for him. didn't see any kid who wants to give him drink. why did they make getting a fishing rod so complicated?

If I recall, process is : Give drink to kid for X amt of times > He will then stop accepting > Check shrine for the ghost lady and get the bug net from her (She doesnt appear everyday) > Give the bug net to the kid > Kid will give you the net instead and now you can catch bugs under the tree > Catch bug > Bring bug to the pub lady > Exchange bug for the hook > Bring hook to the old man by the river and get the rod.

Looks more complicated in words than the actual process in game.
