Persona 4: the story, the gang is 10 more interesting than Persona 5.
If you like Persona 5 you might end up liking persona 4.
For beginners I would say they should start with Persona 5, because the combat is much better.
5 has better gameplay
I bought Persona 4 Golden again to play an amazing game again and show Atlus there's a market for Persona 5 Royal on PC. But after trying and being bored to death by Persona 5 Royal, I honestly don't care whether it comes to PC or not anymore. And I would much rather a definitive version of Persona 3 which includes FES' content and tweaks and P3P's FeMC.
Overall I would say P5 has more good gameplay and features than P4, also more stuff to explore. Meanwhile I think P4 has more interesting story and atmosphere than P5.
2 rather different games, Persona 4 feels more of an oldschool game while Persona 5 is definitely more modern. Just look at how easy the controls are in P5
That's not to say that P4 has terrible controls but one might experience frustration if you have already gone through 100 hours in P5 and now jumping in P4 expecting the same
Unless there is a mod for this, of course
P5: Better Gameplay, Feel more polished, quality of life changes, better dungeon, better graphic
Honestly, to someone who played both Persona games quite a lot, this notion about P5 having "better" dungeons always kinda irks me. The only dungeon that was worth ever mentioning in P5 was that Banker's dungeon. I like the music theme from that one the most and it looked the most sophisticated
However, generally speaking, P5's dungeons are absolutely the same, and the loot that is in boxes is also the same. I can't quite put my finger on the idea of liking those kind of dungeons more since repetition brings advantage, you already know what's where and where to run in case you get caught, which is not the case in P4 since dungeons are totally random so if you fail to get pre-emptive strike it's gonna be a lot harder to avoid that shadow cuz you may not even know where the hell you are going
I would say P5's Banker's Palace stands from the rest of them but OVERALL I would prefer P4's dungeon, with every single one being VERY unique, I mean, hell, one is castle, the other one is sauna, the other is strip club, and there's even heaven too
With combined forces, I would very much argue that P4's dungeon design is better overall, but I guess I'm in the minority to think that
Maybe cuz I like P4 dungeons' OST more, but like I said, returning to dungeons in P5 kinda sucks, you already know the layout, which is not gonna change, and you already know which items in which positions are lootable which is another downside for me
Getting items shouldn't be a walk in the park imo but should be a battle with a shadow that usually roams around the chest area like it is in Persona 4
Literally facepalm
Oh wow, it has.... parkour... cuz that's what a JRPG needs to be really good... yeah right
I guess my most fav games like Fallout New Vegas or God of War or Resident Evil 4 are all bad because they don't have that thing that makes them good, you know, that thing, the PARKOUR
In case you can't get it through your fanboy head, but Persona 5 dungeons are also re-skins, you don't have different physics, you simply have a different layout and you can hide behind certain objects, big frigging deal
