I do agree with you though... I liked original Chie better. The new voice arguably fits the character better, but I find it a lot more annoying.

The new voice actress also does Chie in the animation. I think she did a MUCH better job in the animation.

I don't know what came first, the animation or the Golden version of the game. Maybe she did the animation first, then snorted some cocaine for the game, or maybe she was on the cocaine binge during the game's recording and was coming down after for the animation.
PS: I also played Golden after playing the PS2 version. I was literally on my first run of P4 on PS2 when the PC version got announced. I finished it then immediately bought the Steam version and jumped into it. New Chie did grow on me. She remains one of my favorite characters in spite of me literally cringing from time to time at some of the voice line deliveries.
Having romanced Chie I love the juxtaposition between her tomboy lines and how she is when she is being romantic.
