Voice Change
Long time fan of the PS2 release. Just started playing a few minutes ago. Anyone else a little miffed they changed the voice of Chie but none of the other voices so far? Like king Moron is still the same :<

I mean normally this probably wouldn't bother me but shes so whiny now. I get the voice doesn't make a person but when she says, "my trial of the dragon" it sounded way more devastating in the PS2 version because of the strong persona she has (pun not intended.) If anything this new voice actor sounds like she should be more like Rise. (edit) I figured out why I don't like it now. It sounds like shes reading a script and not putting any vocal context to it. Like "Yukiko's family runs it. It's the pride of Inaba!" she says it so matter of factly in Golden where as in the PS2 version she sounds like shes trying to entice you with things to do.

Ok but couldnt they just use the voice files from the previous version? Its not like I notice a difference in quality between the two so far.

They added NUMEROUS new scenes. Chie would have to remain unvoiced for these new scenes, or they'd have to do all new scenes without voice for consistency. They were also developing spin-off titles and the animation. They NEEDED a replacement. Teddie voice actor was also replaced. Don't know why. They did a fantastic job finding a replacement though as new Teddie sounds extremely close to original.

I do agree with you though... I liked original Chie better. The new voice arguably fits the character better, but I find it a lot more annoying.

This guy does a direct comparison, just a heads up that he swears a few times.

The new voice actress also does Chie in the animation. I think she did a MUCH better job in the animation.

I don't know what came first, the animation or the Golden version of the game. Maybe she did the animation first, then snorted some cocaine for the game, or maybe she was on the cocaine binge during the game's recording and was coming down after for the animation.

PS: I also played Golden after playing the PS2 version. I was literally on my first run of P4 on PS2 when the PC version got announced. I finished it then immediately bought the Steam version and jumped into it. New Chie did grow on me. She remains one of my favorite characters in spite of me literally cringing from time to time at some of the voice line deliveries.

The original Chie voice was a lot calmer and I feel more suited to a more Yukiko like character. The new Chie suits the character more in my opinion, but both VAs were great.

Having romanced Chie I love the juxtaposition between her tomboy lines and how she is when she is being romantic.

Get used to it, because every other Chie uses the new voice and it actually fits her character much more than Grandma Chie in the original
