The idea is open chests until you're on the chest BEFORE he has a chance to spawn, save, and then go to Yukiko's Castle for that fixed floor with 2 unlocked chests. Pop open the first one and, the chains start rattling, and then pop open the second one. If he doesn't spawn, reload.
For what it's worth, I made the same mistake.
So does that mean I have to open up 19 chests, use Goho-M to save at the entrance, and then come back to hopefully open the 20th chest to get the "chain" sounds? Thanks for responding btw
2. Speedrun to floor 5, dont open any chests
3. Use Goho-M
4. Save
5. Back to yukiko castle
6. Go to floor 1
7. Check if floor 1 have 4 chests
8. If there's no 4 chest there go reload your save file
9. Open 4 chests in floor 1, count until 20 chests ( return to entrance > dont return to entrace, repeat this step )
10. Get back to entrance and save
11. Back to yukiko castle
12. Go to floor 5
13. They are only 2 red chests on this floor and either can spawn a shadow. Basically open both chests hoping the Reaper spawns. 1st chest here will.cause Chains to rattle, 2nd chest will hopefully spawn the Reaper (which originally would have spawned a Shadow). If not reload your most recent save and repeat
( if you already hear the chain before open 20 chests that's mean it resets )
Yeah.
I'm pretty sure the Reaper spawns on chest 22 though. Either way, you got the idea behind it. Save 2 chests away from the Reaper and hope for the best.
I realized that the best way to do this is to use a Goho-M on that floor and then go to Naoto's Secret Laboratory, since there are many chests on that dungeon and counting all the chests that I open until 20, then using a Goho-M and go back to the 5th floor Yukiko's Castle. Then at the floor, open the first chest and if the chains sound start playing in the background, that means that the Reaper has a chance to spawn in the next chest that can have a Shadow inside it. After knowing this little trick, I managed to easily farm The Reaper for all the best weapons for the characters I use and got Godly Robes for everyone, and I even managed to get the Omnipotent Orb.
Like people also stated here, the number of chests the player opens is saved everytime the player switches floors and even dungeons, but once the chain sound start to play, if the player leaves its current floor the counter will reset, and also it is worth noting that, while opening golden chests counts for the total number of chests needing to be opened for The Reaper to appear, the Reaper himself cannot spawn in Golden Chests, and opening even just 1 when the chains sound is playing will make the counter reset and The Reaper will not spawn unless the player opens more 21 chests.
