is it worth leveling izanagi?
just finished bathhouse and reached lv 30, I've just been fusing to get stronger personas as the game recommends but I feel sorta weird not using izanagi since he is my actual persona.

its quite a grind to level him up so just wondering if its worth doing or even if i get a better izanagi down the track

This topic actually prompted me to try playing through the game only using Izanami, which I did on NG+, though I only used cards that I actually got in that playthrough (not buying cards from Marie).. I stopped using him somewhere in the level 50+ range when all of his stats were in the 80s.. Shuffle Time is too strong..

No. As soon as you get a stronger persona you should discard your previous one which served the same purpose.

If you want to keep Izanagi, do it on NG+ not your first playthrough because the grind is way too big if you want to make him a decent Persona. Just discard Izanagi for now, use his slot for Social Link Personas instead.

I once discarded Izanagi, but I thought I should try and at least make him part of my leveling collection. Gave it growth 2, currently level 28 and I'm halfway through the game. A couple skill cards and I find myself using him every now and again.

I call that progress.

No... why are so many new players trying to stick with the starting Persona...?

It's all about the upgrade.

Some SMT games reward you for holding onto your starter. Nocturne, for example, gives you a ripped-out-of-her-mind Pixie if you hold onto her for 80% of the game.

...this is not one of them. Fuse away.

Because shuffle time and skill cards are broken. I actually solo'd some of the bosses on hard mode with Izanagi.
Bottom line is, if you're stuck grinding a lot, Izanagi being you best persona just happens.

It's because Arsene was actually pretty decent, especially if you refused him late-game using high tier inherited skills and Persona 5 was a lot of people's first game in the series.

Unfortunately, Izanagi quickly falls behind (like, within a few battles behind) except for his decent resistances.

Izanagi is pretty solid compared to the crap you find for your first 15 levels. and once good personas start coming out, Izanagi is still sitting on the 50 cards you threw into him from levels 1 to 15. That's why he lasts WAY too long. I personally replaced my Izanagi with Ares. Just let that sink in.

If you don't dump cards on him immediately he gets outclassed immediately by even most other Physical orientated Personas. You don't even have the excuse of being able to card Zio off of him at the cafe because you can get that card super easily through Shuffle Time. If you actually bother to dump good skills like upgrading something into God's Hand or giving him Maziodyne and upgrading his MA stat, you can make him good...

...but you could put that effort into other, much better Personas like Magatsu-Izanagi (better default stats and movepool) or even something the tried-and-true Yosh*tsune or Beelzebub.

On your initial run? Not really because all Personas stop learning skills fairly quickly and fall behind in levels. That means to get the better tier skills, you either have to make new Personas or farm skill cards. The latter is just a big hassle, honestly. You really shouldn't saddle yourself with that on your first playthrough. You can use the cafe too to mitigate some of the pain but the cafe wastes a lot of time. However, if you're really that dead set on it, I suggest the Kaiwan trck to get some high level skills early game. This will help ease the pain a ton.

On NG+? Yeah it doesn't matter. Once you have a healthy amount of skill cards and the means to fuse any broken combo you want, the only things that really set Personas apart is their resistances and exclusive skills, like Yoshi's Hassou Tobi.

I discarded Izanagi on my initial playthrough right after the Kanji's Steamy Bathouse dungeon. On my NG+ though, I used skill cards and skill up cards from shuffle time, as well as stat boosting cards and he already has max Strength and Endurance.

This is a result of never swapping Izanagi out, at all, except to use Debilitate on bosses.

Was it right? Probably not. Was it fun? Oh yeah. Izanagi became full on powerful as all hell by the time of Rise's dungeon.

*EDIT: This isn't even the most recent stats, just haven't booted the game up recently to screen his current stats. Just finished Kanji's in NG+ and Lu and Au are both almost 99 now.

Yes it might be fun to some people although to me, grinding a lot so to win more easily, doesnt seem like it would, also I never like games that might become too easy from this, so I would only do that if it was the opposite.

As for TC`s question, it is like you say, it is usually preferred to fuse Personas because leveling up the same Persona is much longer. Although with Izanagi being the characters main Persona, then it might be good for story reasons to keep them, even if it doesnt make a difference. Yet maybe not use them if leveling them up is too tedious.
