from what i remember it doesn't give you any stat boosts or anything, only the delicious taste of the gulping melon cream soda

I think it it there to keep you guessing.

The whole point of the fridge is showing Courage by trying stuff in it, right? So the Melon Cream Soda is just sort of a "fake out" as I see it. A "neutral" result. Not bad. Not good. No bonuses, but no penalties.

You see, if you drink the melon cream soda then there's actually a 20% increase on average on the number of cards that'll show up in your shuffles the next time you enter a dungeon.

It lets you drink Melon Cream Soda. Isn't that reason enough? If you'd had it, you'd know... When the Asian Market in my area gets a pallet of the stuff in, it sells out in days. They don't even bother having a facing for the stuff on the shelf because it was always empty. They just put it on a stack-out.
