He is so homophobic literally every second he is with Kanji he is insulting him for being gay. I’m not that far in the game but I bet he’s also gonna insult Naoto for being trans since he obviously hates the LGBT.

I can't tell if this is bait or not.

1. Naoto isn't transgender. If you actually pay attention to her arc, you'd know otherwise. Her arc is learning to not be discouraged by gender politics in her field. Saying she is trans is basically saying she can only succeed if she is a man.

2. You shouldn't label Kanji as gay. The point of the game is people overcoming the labels put on them by peers an society. Kanji is attracted to Naoto, so he is either straight or bisexual, but there is no way to be sure.

3. Yosuke is just making joking insensitive remarks that Kanji can't take. Yosuke is just a guy who is somewhat insensitive in general. Yosuke also had a scrapped romance, so he could also be a bisexual that's deflecting to prove how 'straight' he is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ogh3mdPHsA#action=share

Yosuke is 16, you can't tell me it's not realistic for a 16 year old kid to be homophobic. It's morally wrong, but it's realistic. It draws attention to homophobia, and because he's the buttmonkey of the group he gets his just deserts alot of the time.

Besides, if Yosuke really offended Kanji, then Kanji could easily just kick his ass. One of the overarching lessons of the game is that we all have faults, but it doesn't have to define us.

I'll allow the perception being a ♥♥♥♥ to Kanji was some form of joke, and not meant on any serious level.

Yosuke is bi though.

Regardless why they cut the option, it is clear it was a factor while writing/developing his character.

He's just bi with no men he's into in-game.

He’s definitely bi, it’s pretty clear he had feelings for naoto even before knowing she was female.

Yeah people tend to forget that, at the end of the day Kanji likes Naoto for Naoto, regardless of sex/gender.

Or rather he could be pansexual, where he is attracted to Naoto, regardless what Naoto is.

He's a teenage boy in Japan. That's why.

Okay keep in mind that this is coming from someone who is pansexual, but pan and bi are basically the same thing.
The game's old and Japan's mainstream culture has come a long way on LGBT issues in the past decade. I wont deny that this game has a few ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up views, as did the Atlus game, Catherine, which came our a few years later. Them was the times though. If you can't ignore it, then that sucks and I respect that. Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of the game though.

Naoto isn’t trans

But you played as a canonically bisexual protagonist in Persona 2 Innocent Sin. A game from 1999.

From what I’ve gathered (and this could be wrong) japan is less against TBGL people/content and more so they don’t really care.

Pan is attraction to a person, which is a notable contextual difference.

Naoto could identify as nonbinary or some unknown alien sex and Kanji would still be down.

Idk why Atlus got more homophobic for a while in particular. I'm not pouring over the writing staff for each game.
