Honestly, Atlus should just let you choose your gender like in Persona 3 Portable. That gives you the best of both worlds and a new perspective on the story when you play it again.
Let's say it could have been the other way around. What if the MC of the Persona games, throughout the years, were always females; but then, all of a sudden, in P6, the protagonist is male, why? Hasn't it been already established throughout the years that the MC of the Persona games are always female? why the change? and why now all of a sudden? Is ATLUS trying to appease to a new audience or something?

...This made up scenario aside, do you all see what I'm saying? If ATLUS made such change to the series now of all the times (especially with how it has been built upon over the years) then it could mean pushing the old and loyal fans aside.

I'll say what I said in my previous post, I love RPG that gives me an option to pick and choose my gender(and also starting class). Wonderful. I am surprised that many J-RPGs, in the here and now, still haven't figured out or dared to make male/female as an option, why? Today's technology isn't megabyte and 8-bits anymore. I don't understand developers behind RPGs that locks the MC behind Warrior-Male.

For some guys before me, well, we already had P2:EP and P3P. I guess that it's not always that simple. A lot of assets need to be doubled in order to add a female protag. It's added cost for the development, the writing, the voice acting, etc.

In some stances it's interesting and the right thing to do. In the others, it's just unneeded, or just isn't that interesting. Don't get me wrong, it's just that some scenes, humor or writing Persona is know for works best for male MC, because it's the base of the audience and how the franchise consolidated.

I mean, it's not that changing the MC (let's say, e.g, customization options) would help the message or the plot in any significative manner doing that, and we still have the risk of alienating some of the fanbase without necessarily bringing up new fans to cover this hole.

Let's not forget that the character is a blank page or self insert, but it doesn't mean also that it needs to represent us (let's imagine, as me being a Brazilian, wanting a Japanese student having color skin or hair like mine?), it's the opposite, it's us who need to properly fill the gaps and enter in the paper of that character, not the other way around.

From all games, Persona is one of the best regarding the female cast. I would love to have another female protagonist if there's something to add that only a female protagonist could do. It's a reasonable request if there's a good reason for that, I also would love to have the option.

I guess that Persona is a series that tell us all the time, that it doesn't matter who you are or what are your sex, orientation, body type or whatever. it shouldn't matter as long as you accept yourself and want to do the right thing, isn't?

The blank slate thing shouldnt be a reason for why they dont.

Because like half the audience is being told to imagine themselves as male.
Its only fair to have a mainline female protagonist once in awhile.
Why not just let Atlus decide about how they want to make the game instead forcing them to satisfy some of the minority .These minority can try to make their own game however they want ,no one is complaining .

It would be a lot of work to have a choice of gender (there's a reason P3P has somewhat simplified gameplay and came out years after the original) but I agree it would be nice to have the variety.

I'm not sure it'll happen though as the current series is laser focused on selling to male Japanese high school students as a demographic since that has been so successful.

Easy workaround, you make female protagonist a total babe.
It still has the issue of the MC dating male characters which the target demographic might find quite awkward.

Shame that Persona has never, ever had a female protagonist...

But if Persona 6 were to have a female protag, it would feel derivative if it just did the same dating-sim highschool setting of P3-5. If P6 is going to do the dating sim stuff, I'd want it to be in a college setting. If they were to do that, they could more easily make a unique story that would benefit from having a female protag. If they just did the same thing as P3-5 but with a girl, it would feel like they didn't have any ideas left. But Atlus is really good imo at making stories that benefit from having a female protag, as well as having it be meaningful for their protagonist to be male.
We had a female protagonist in Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, but nobody these days plays that game, so it's been done, you just didn't know it.
You dont HAVE to, like how you dont have to shack up in 3 -5.
could have activities as an excuse to have her in pin-up ish situations to keep that crowd happy.
The director of P3-5 actually believes it's impossible for girls and boys to hang out without being romantically involved and that mindset has shaped a lot of the series.

It's really hard to say what his successor will do but they are unlikely to shake up a winning formula.
Personally, I would love seeing more female protagonists in Persona games.

I mean they could just add yuri options for FeMC.
