...This made up scenario aside, do you all see what I'm saying? If ATLUS made such change to the series now of all the times (especially with how it has been built upon over the years) then it could mean pushing the old and loyal fans aside.
I'll say what I said in my previous post, I love RPG that gives me an option to pick and choose my gender(and also starting class). Wonderful. I am surprised that many J-RPGs, in the here and now, still haven't figured out or dared to make male/female as an option, why? Today's technology isn't megabyte and 8-bits anymore. I don't understand developers behind RPGs that locks the MC behind Warrior-Male.
In some stances it's interesting and the right thing to do. In the others, it's just unneeded, or just isn't that interesting. Don't get me wrong, it's just that some scenes, humor or writing Persona is know for works best for male MC, because it's the base of the audience and how the franchise consolidated.
I mean, it's not that changing the MC (let's say, e.g, customization options) would help the message or the plot in any significative manner doing that, and we still have the risk of alienating some of the fanbase without necessarily bringing up new fans to cover this hole.
Let's not forget that the character is a blank page or self insert, but it doesn't mean also that it needs to represent us (let's imagine, as me being a Brazilian, wanting a Japanese student having color skin or hair like mine?), it's the opposite, it's us who need to properly fill the gaps and enter in the paper of that character, not the other way around.
From all games, Persona is one of the best regarding the female cast. I would love to have another female protagonist if there's something to add that only a female protagonist could do. It's a reasonable request if there's a good reason for that, I also would love to have the option.
I guess that Persona is a series that tell us all the time, that it doesn't matter who you are or what are your sex, orientation, body type or whatever. it shouldn't matter as long as you accept yourself and want to do the right thing, isn't?
Because like half the audience is being told to imagine themselves as male.
Its only fair to have a mainline female protagonist once in awhile.
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment
It would be a lot of work to have a choice of gender (there's a reason P3P has somewhat simplified gameplay and came out years after the original) but I agree it would be nice to have the variety.
I'm not sure it'll happen though as the current series is laser focused on selling to male Japanese high school students as a demographic since that has been so successful.
could have activities as an excuse to have her in pin-up ish situations to keep that crowd happy.
It's really hard to say what his successor will do but they are unlikely to shake up a winning formula.
I mean they could just add yuri options for FeMC.
