Modding the original P4 opening into the game?

Only thing I'm not liking so far of this port is that it uses the new Persona 4 Golden opening instead of the original Persona 4 opening from the PS2 release. I already tracked down a good copy of the old opening, but the game's assets are packed into PAC files, and I've never worked with such a format. Is it possible to open these files and replace the Opening video without breaking the game checks?

EDIT: Just realized that the game does have the original opening buried in the TV Guide. Wonder if there's a way to mod the pointers to get that to play instead of the new opening on game start. I'm way over my head so it'll be unlikely I can do it myself without existing tools.

Check out Shrinefox on twitter and then search for Amicitia to find that specific mod, then you'll be able to drop the right file into the PAC file that it's in.

Those mods and tools aren't directly compatible with the PC version it seems, unfortunately. The good news is that you pointed me towards the right rabbit hole.

While browsing their stuff I noticed they mentioned that P4 Golden uses PAC files similar to the Neptunia games. So I tracked down some Neptunia PC mod tools and low and behold, they were able to extract the PAC files! After that I just had to go through the PAC files and find which one contained the intro videos (movie00002.pac). Now I could just rename the video files and then make a new PAC with them using the tools. Only issue I ran into was that it's kinda fiddly, and I had to rearrange 3 files in order to get it so the game is happy and doesn't crash.

But SUCCESS!!! My game now launches with the original Intro! I'm looking into making a guide to simplify the process for others. I think I'll first just release a patch so that people don't have to go through the trouble of extracting and rearranging things themselves. Then I'll get around to making a full walkthrough of the process later.
