Having the same issue here, seems to be somewhat common

I was just about to start a thread asking if anyone has been having any performance issues with the PC port. I viewed a GameXplain video review and they brought up the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrJHtl3O9D8 They said they were having stuttering issues during certain segments in the game. I was curious if it was a widespread issue, and it seems like it might be.

I wonder if the Denuvo DRM is causing this, or if it's just a port problem that can be fixed with a patch? I was about to purchase this, but maybe I'll wait a few days/weeks to see if this issue gets fixed.

Opening cinematic nearly unplayable, video and audio skips all over. It's Denuvo dragging down system performance. The only fix is to wait until Denuvo is removed, unfortunately.

Everything but the anime scenes has been running smoothly for me. You would think they would just have it play like a video but their actively rendering it with your GPU/graphics card so that might be why there's stuttering/lag. (I don't know for sure if that's the cause but if I had to infer, it would make the most sense.)

having the same issue, and it's stopping me from really starting

It is not Denuvo you weirdos.

yeah the cutscenes are running bad while the game is running great. I wonder why as well

I'm not saying the issue is directly related to Denuvo, but since that DRM has been known to cause performance issues in other games, Denuvo was the first thing that popped into my mind. It could be some other reason, though. So far there's no concrete proof that it is or isn't the reason for the cutscene issues.

If you have no idea what you're talking about don't just barf out a random guess because you have prior beef against Denuvo.

I'm just inferring an idea based on previous experiences. Without proper knowledge about the inner workings of this port I can't make any guaranteed statements, which is why I said I can't be sure if it's Denuvo or not. It could be something else entirely, but the problem is there.

Do you...work for Denuvo or something? I think it's kind of weird to stick up for a DRM, especially one with a bad reputation. Or are you getting angry because it's one of those situations where everyone complains about one thing to an annoying degree and you're just like "shut up and enjoy this great game!".

I can get that line of reasoning, but if something is the cause of performance degradation in a game you love, eliminating it can only give you a better experience. At least that's how I see it. But as you've stated, I don't know if Denuvo is the real reason for the issues.

One user in this thread ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/1113000/discussions/0/2441461920666378268/ ) said that they moved the game from an HDD to an SSD and that fixed the problem for them. If that's the only solution, I might either just wait and hope for a patch to fix this or buy it after I get an SSD. So...no day 1 buy for me, unfortunately.

I mixed you up with someone else which is why I was more emphatic about it, my apologies.

I'm not sticking up for Denuvo, I'm tired of people who have no idea what they're on about treating it like the #1 cause for every issue that occurs in a game.
Carsonist Jun 13, 2020 @ 12:53pm
Not for me then. I natively installed the game to my SSD. :steamsalty:

Hey, a lot of people jump to conclusions on the Internet, and IRL. Just one of those things about human nature you gotta except. Don't let it get you down.

And it might not even be Denuvo. Might be the way the port was assembled. Hopefully the situation gets resolved soon by the developers. I'd even take a community fix at this point.

I've been meaning to get a 1 TB external SSD, but I don't know if this will be the game that makes me plunk down the money for one yet. Maybe if I can get one during a sale. I could wait till Black Friday and could get an SSD and this game at the same time.

Im having laggy cutscenes too, but i remember when Catherine was out and it had some minor issues like that and they quick fixed with some patches, so, don't worry.
