Isn't that exactly what happened with P5R? A third party got salty about an off-colour joke and kicked up a stink until it got changed in the west?

That's a little more complicated situation. Those scenes got mentioned in reviews both in the West and Japan (where they were seen as a bit outdated humor but not really offensive.). They did only change the Western version though.

Yeah, it's funny, because when reviews mentioned an uncomfortable and weird scene in P5, I knew EXACTLY what they were referring to, because I hadn't forgotten it.

That scene is super cringy and felt out of place the moment I ran into it. Regardless of how you feel about the central issue (the scene using OLD humor to compare homosexuals to pedos), I found it most jarring because it was out-of-character for Joker, and made him look like a huge jerk for abandoning his friend in a potentially dangerous situation.

I feel like the expanded versions of the Persona games (Royal and Golden) are like second drafts, where the developers and writers can polish the script, gameplay, and themes. So it makes sense to take something out like that.

Old humor? Give me a break, there are places in the world that would stone you to death for being gay, so dont get all sissy about Japan having different view when it come to this matter (just take Kanji for instance). As I said, it is kind of an outdated stereotype even in Japan that was mentioned in some of their reviews. Nothing that's going to cause outcry if someone uses those kind of jokes, but eyes will definitely roll at it.

There's no reason for any censorship, ever. But the crybullies manage to find things to complain about anyway, so things get censored. Look at Catherine and P5, both of which got censored because babies complained too much. I could definitely see them changing dialog to make the characters who are literally NOT gay or trans into being gay and trans just to push their narrative.

P5 is not censored.

P5R got two scenes censored over a tasteless gay joke. For anyone curious it was two gay men trying to hit on an underage boy. Pedophile and such. P5 original still has the two scenes.

P4 and p4g never got anything removed or censored.

So it WAS censored. Whether you personally agree with a censorship or not doesn't stop it from being censorship. So both games are censored then.

No, Persona 4 isn't censored at all in either form. Only P5 Royal was censored.

No censorship. Already has seen things which could be censored (jokes about sexuality or 2nd and 3rd dungeon), but they are still there.

Probably the only Atlus game which got a quite heavy censorship was Tokyo Mirage. Otherwise they only change few things about very side contect like in Persona 5, where they changed one dialogue.

Are you seriously advocating for censorship in video games that you pay money for? If people had mentality like yours, Adult movies would be censoring their poster girls and PlayBoy would feature fully dressed women. Like holy hell, do you not see the problem here?

If a character was once designed one way, that way should be preserved without any censorship because not only it ruins the original game, it shows disrespect to characters, although virtual. People are pretty upset about Joel in TLOU2 even though he is a pixelated virtual non-existent character

It's their IP. They can do anything they want to it.
The only problem I see is your belief that you are a better writer/director/designer than the people actually do the work.

Why do people keep making this argument? Of course a game dev/artist/whatever can create or censor whatever they want.

And consumers / fans can choose to not buy it and / or complain about it if they feel the artist has done a crap job.

The only problem I see is your belief that you are a better writer/director/designer than the people actually do the work.

The problem is that after censorship we wont the same game as Japan, so it is harder to receive a full experience, because some scenes were changed or censored, because it might offend some peoples or there were too much nudity or weapons.
