Struggeling to enjoy this game
I love souls-likes, but I have become more and more skeptical of souls-likes after playing games like Nioh and the Surge which I didn't really enjoy for one reason or another. So coming into this game I was skeptical but after seeing people like critical play it, I just had to give it a go. I thourouly enjoyed the first area of the game and got all 4 shells before starting to explore the other areas. The first area I tried was the Shrine of Ash. That's when my enjoyment for this game went from like a 90 right down to 10. Firstly the knight guys have attacks with such little telegraph, they are dodgeable but its aggravating sometimes. Like the flamey boi has an upward swing that is just straight up impossible to dodge because it comes out so quick. I don't know if this because of my playstyle (which is very aggressive and I love my stamina then in this case the fault is my own.) But I still fell that those swings are just way to quick. The lack of being able to fast travel between you're checkpoint and the base is also tedious and you have to backtrack if you wanna switch out a weapon or character. This reminds me heavily of DS1 and it gets tiring very quickly. I would love to be able to change playstyles on the fly but you just can't do that here. Imagine you had to walk back to Firelink Shrine to switch out you're armor or weapons. Allbeit this is a much smaller world but it is still a convinence that I think should be included. Souls-likes should not always be about difficulty and inconvincing the player, but should just be an enjoyable experience. While Mortal Shell is still a lot of fun, it just gets tiring to play very quickly

Edit: I just ran past the enemies in the big open room with the 2 fire demons in the pots only to find out that the enemies have UNLIMITED TRACKING. I don't need to be a souls vet to tell you why this is awful.

I agree that mobs winding times are too fast and it feels off in a game where you can't spam 'shield' (hardening still has a little timer to it) if you're not quick enough on reflexes (like I surely am). Many times the attacks are poorly telegraphed, and above all else mobs respawn after quitting/resetting the game even without 'sitting to a bonfire'.
That last one is my personal red flag because it destroys all the positive immersion to me, as well as any adequate 'feel of progression'. I know DkS games had it as well, but hey at least I can spam the shield there when I'm having troubles travelling long distances here and there as long as I have enough stamina there if I'm low on concentration or just having a bad day evading dmg/rolling around. Here things are much more brutal on their own, and having the mobs respawn each time is just crazy.
Not to mention mobs' unlimited tracking that you've mentioned there. I would also add their sometimes bs weapon reach but that's just a common hitbox trouble of (most likely) all Soulsborne games ever created I guess.

In the end, the game won me over with its gorgeous atmosphere (at least in the first area, haven't explored others much yet), its visuals and I really liked to immerse myself into it from time to time (the soundscape, the 'weighty' combat, the cryptic aesthetics - I loved all of it).
But there are some quirks to it that stop me from enjoying it to the fullest, sadly.

The lute ending still rocks tho.

Everyone who is an EGS client is a steam client, so some can play the game if they choose, and it's your choice as well, you've made it. If you are just lurking here until the game released on steam, then that's just sad.
