Gender or body type?
Will there be a female body type to choose? In the videos so far the protagonist always looks male. Will there be a choice in the final game? Or will there be female looking shells to find?

judging by the "shadows" of the shells in the menu, no. I dunno if all the ones in the demo are it or they plan on adding more shells though so there is maybe hope, But most likely all body types will be masculine in nature. i mean one of them is a literal skeleton, and is definitely the least masculine looking one, so "skeleton of maybe a female" is probably the closest you'll get

Okay. I guess since it's an indie developer they won't spend the extra money anyway. Animations and such. Would be a nice surprise though.

You aren't anything more than a spirit/hollow inhabiting bodies. You don't choose your body, you inhabit other people's bodies and the 4 shown in the demo with two being simply silhouettes, there is no female ones. Though this shouldn't bother anyone, as it is an immersive experience with story/lore unlocking as you learn the shells name.

to be fair. that type of thinking is kinda flawed, saying what someone should and shouldn't be bothered by.

It's a game, it's not reality. It's the same thing as say reading harry potter and wishing he was a female. You take the role of a character in an RPG, meaning role playing game. You live their life. It isn't a create your own adventure, it is a linear souls like experience. Expecting anything else is literally just asking to cause some sort of issue and genders in games are ok, but sometimes they are completely out of place, like in the battlefield game where you had females on the battlefield etc.

" It's the same thing as say reading harry potter and wishing he was a female." and that is fine, people are welcome to be bothered by it, its their opinion and they are welcome to be bothered by it.

Its the same as telling someone what they should and shouldn't like, whether their expectation is silly or not its just a flawed way of looking at something,

then why they do the male first and not the female? I tell you why, because they are sexists! They just want to support the already dominant gender in games as protagonist, this is sexism and this makes me to not support them, I support all Dark Souls games for PC, but didn't support Sekiro because was sexist and didn't had female option
Boy what a twisted sense of logic you have there, Neither this or sekiro is sexist, You are a fixed character this isn't new.

I get what the OP is saying and respect that. If I was forced to play a female (and never have so far as I remember except Ciri on occasion...) I likely would be hard-put to identify with the character I am playing, and it would take away from the experience at least a little if not more.

I role-play the RPGs I play a lot, but many don't, and unfortunately am not in touch with my feminine side, LOL.

But yes, small indie developer, something has to give with the budget... Sexist? No, don't look for a fight...

I don't think the creatures in Mortal Shell are really having sex and reproducing so gender is not relevant. The main character is some slimy thing with nothing between the legs so it doesn't appear to have any specific gender. Maybe the shoulder width is very masculine but this isn't a role playing game either so it shouldn't matter.

It’s pretty obvious which enemies are male and female by model and sound not like that should matter.

male characters are the worst, a female doesn't need to be "feminine" she can be a damn badass with big muscles and all if the developers will stop doing this dumb "feminine" look for them

So they should ignore biology?

Missed this earlier and not trying to nit pick, but gender (he/she/it) is chosen or assigned, while biological reproduction is male/female sex based, at least for most complex organisms.

Now whether undead are getting it on, well, that's another topic...

Gender exists due to reproductive roles. These two things are not mutually exclusive.
