Films like L.A. Noire
After playing through LA Noire, I wanted more 40's Crime Thrillers
Here's a few of my favourite Film-Noir movies, if you need to fill your post-war crime cravings:

M (1931)
When the police in a German city are unable to catch a child-murderer, other criminals join in the manhunt.

Double Indemnity (1944)
An insurance rep lets himself be talked into a murder/insurance fraud scheme that arouses an insurance investigator's suspicions.

Touch of Evil (1958)
Stark, perverse story of murder, kidnapping, and police corruption in Mexican border town.

Key Largo (1948)
A man visits his old friend's hotel and finds a gangster running things. As a hurricane approaches, the two end up confronting each other.

and a few Favourites from a King of Directing; Alfred Hitchcock:

Vertigo (1958)
A retired San Francisco detective suffering from acrophobia investigates the strange activities of an old friend's much-younger wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her.

Rear Window (1954)
A wheelchair bound photographer spies on his neighbours from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder.

Strangers on a Train (1951)
A psychotic socialite confronts a pro tennis star with a theory on how two complete strangers can get away with murder...a theory that he plans to implement.

Dial M for Murder (1954)
An ex-tennis pro carries out a plot to murder his wife. When things go wrong, he improvises a brilliant plan B.

Another Hitchcock classic that I love, but is based on the Cuban Missile Crisis:
Topaz (1969)
A French intelligence agent becomes embroiled in the Cold War politics first with uncovering the events leading up to the 1962 Cuban Missle Crisis, and then back to France to break up an international Russian spy ring.

Any other good Film-Noir or Neo-Noir films that I've missed?

a lot of good classics on that list! double indemnity especially, and touch of evil.

i recommend:

journey into fear
the big heat
night and the city
out of the past
the killers
brute force
the big sleep
in a lonely place
detour

LA Confidential is a good movie that deals with many of the same themes as the game. As period movies go, Charade is a good mix of suspense, comedy, and mystery.

Chinatown and The Two Jakes are also good Neo-Noir films.

Detour is even on the marquees of the theaters in-game, so...

Having just watched it, "Gangster Squad" (2013) is a "meh" wanna-be Neo-Noir film. Same subject matter as LA Confidential, but terrible pacing. A decent enough movie, but nowhere near the ones previously mentioned.

Also check out D.O.A. It's a genre classic, circa 1950.

I'd recommend " Columbo" from the 60's, it's perfect for me.
