I have the retail version of L.A. Noire. Ever since I upgraded to Win 8.1 64-bit (same pc in all other aspects) I'm not able to play this game. I've tried everything that is provided on the official website without any success. This game simply refuse to launch. Though its just the retail version but I notice the steam version is the same. :(

Does the LANPatcher crash? If so google Rockstar social club newest version, install it and it should work

Downloaded it last night and installed - as well as social club update. When clicking the desktop icon, or running as administrator, the game start searching for updates and after that nothing. No updates are being installed. The game simply does not respond. I made a clean install yesterday. I was hopeful that these issues will be sorted out by now. Well I'm done with Rockstar games. Thanks for trying to help.

Hmm, did you let it run for ages while searching for updates? Because on my first launch, it too,k about 30 minutes.

My last effort entailed the following. I launched the launcher (sounds silly) from within explorer and it downloaded and installed the "Social Club v1.1.5.8 Setup" although I all ready did so - which is strange. Then the launcher pops up and when I click "Launch Game" nothing happens ... apart from the expresion on my face. You know that gamers rage face. No mate I've done all. And this is such a good game. I had the same issue with GTA IV - it pissed me off so much I threw the game in the rubbish to be recycled.

Ok, this might sound really dumb, but restart your computer and steam. That was another thing I had to do.

No its not dumb. Already tried that and did not work. Think I'll just recycle this as well. Thanks for trying to assist. Happy gaming mate.

So you've tried properties-->compatibility mode?

Another reason might be because the game needs to be on your primary drive, at least in my experience it wouldnt launch when it was on another.

I think I have previously tried these option, not sure. Regardless I'll try it out and let you know.

I'm having the same issue as you. I played it years ago and didn't find it appealing at the time but wanted to give it another try and after updating it doesn't launch. The LA Noire window says loading but it then jumps back to the little menu window that looks for updates and such. I tried setting admin rights on Steam and all the LA noire's game .exe but still no go.

- Tried launching in DX9 but nothing yet.

I made it work by going to options and clicking on default settings, it will set every to standard and the resolution to 720p, I also deleted the command line since I don't know if it was something I wrote years ago.

Nope, no such luck for me. Tried using different combinations in option as well without any luck. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep on trying though. Happy gaming.

At first you must to make your own account in Rockstar Games Social Club:
http://socialclub.rockstargames.com


1. Install DirectX (take it from DVD 1)

2. Install the game

3. Download the LAN Patch:

- For English/French/Italian/German/Spanish languages:
http://patches.rockstargames.com/prod/lan/fullpatches/LAN_Patch_2617_0_0_0.exe

- For Russian language:
http://patches.rockstargames.com/prod/lan/fullpatches/LAN_Patch_Russian_2617_0_0_0.exe

4. Run LAN_Patch_2617_0_0_0.exe

Enter Login and Password of your account, then enter the serial number to activate this game.
