can't punch or fight

anyone know how to make him punch?
I've tried all the keys the only one that works is the chokehold (Q)
can't get him to punch or duck or nothing
do I need a plug in mouse?
I can't hold the brawl button and push the fight button at the same time as it's the keyboard mouse.
Anyone got a clue?
