Game Doesn't Start
Hey, just bought the game. There is no way to start the game, I click to start game and it loads the startup and then play button, but it will not start. I tried to run as administrator, and also tried to verify, nothing is working, I remember for Grand theft auto Liberty Episodes you needed to download Games for Windows, is that what I am missing here or what? Thanks. -Jon420

Hey someone mentioned this option and it worked for me, loaded the game right up. Uncheck the "Use desktop Game Theater While SteamVR is active" option. Thanks and Hope it works. -Jon420

I can't start it either, but my computer says that it can't query DirectX. I checked which version i had and it's up to date.

Hi Delta, have you tried closing steam and then reopening steam in administrator?

Close Steam and then run Steam as admin, then launch the L.A. Noire through your library. Might take a couple of tries, but it worked for me.

It works for you because you probably have Win 10
It doesnt work for 7 or 8 win

It doesn't start for me too. The Windows' Event Viewer (Win+R -> eventvwr.msc -> Windows Logs -> Application) shows that problem is in MCVCP90.dll.

Just fixed it!

1. To make sure it will work for you, first make sure to uninstall existing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable package (from Control Panel -> Add or remove programs).
2. Restart
3. Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package from Microsoft:
64-bit (x64): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15336
32-bit (x86): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29
4. Restart
5. Exit Steam (completely, e.g. from tray) if it has auto-started
6. Run Steam as Administrator e.g. from Menu -> type "Steam" -> right click -> "Run as Administrator"
7. Launch the game, enjoy!

P.S. I encountered 2 issues there: the first was MSVCP90.dll problem which was caused by C++ redistributable, the second was - need to start Steam as admin once before launching the game. Both problems got fixed in above-mentioned steps.

Hey the unchecking the Steam VR option is available where you go to Library of your games and Right Click LA Noire and then properties.

Tried everything mentioned from G4M3R and I'm still getting the error about DirectX and the distributables.

I've dealt with the same DirectX issue. If you navigate to the install dir and run the DXSETUP file located in; L.A Noire>3rd. Then make sure to run steam in admin mode, this worked for me. Maybe it will for you too.

Hi all,
I was able to get the game to run by going into the Steam folder and click once on Steam.exe and selected property, then checked box that says, run as administrator. I did the same for Steam Client.exe. Then I went into LA Noire folder and clicked once on LA Noire exe, opened Property and checked box that says run as administrator. When Steam started it gave a warning not to start up running as Administrator but I ignored the warning and everything runs, even LA Noire.

I'm on Windows 10 and this worked for me. I was getting the "cannot query DirectX version" error. I went to D:\steam\steamapps\common\L.A.Noire\3rd\ and right click DXSETUP and Run As Administrator, then reboot and the game launched. Thanks!
