2 questions before I buy
1. Do you ever run out of crimes? I mean, it's understandable to run out of cases, but are there random events or patroling or something. I was looking for a game where I can be a cop whether it's pulling people over for speeding or stopping muggings or anything really. Standard police stuff. I just want to know if, as an open world, there is anything to do after you beat all the main missions. For example, Watch_Dogs always had random events you could stop crimes at, does this have anything similar?

2. I see a lot of people complaining about performance. How bad an issue is this?

First thing you wil need is "Widescreen Fixer" to enable 60fps (default is capped to 30fps). You can run the game in DX9 or DX11, but DX9 for me causes black screens on cut scenes and the menu, so I have to leave it to DX11. This will mean you have to rely on ingame AA, which is FXAA and pretty poor. I tried SweetFX but SMAA didn't seem to work, so instead I set Nvidia DSR 4x, which renders at 4k and downsizes to 1080p for me.

It's playable (maxed out), but it does sometimes drop in odd areas, including cutscenes. I just think it's a shabby port but nowhere near as bad as some people make out.

Testing on GTX 780 and an i7.

Regarding 1.

I haven't played that much, but so far it seems to be very story driven and not the sort of open world game you're describing.

Probably best to wait for it to go on sale.

Alright, thanks.

To anyone else who reads this, feel free to reply as well. Any bit helps.

During regular gameplay (whilst playing the story), eventually you do run into random events. You'll get them over the radio while you drive to the next location during a case. You can choose to respond to the call or ignore it and continue working on the active case.

If you respond, you'll have to drive to the location the dispatcher has given you. And after you are done, you can continue to work on the active case.

These random events are kind of like micro-cases, but more action driven instead of hunting for clues and such. Sometimes, they are even funny.

I don't know if this still works after the main campaign. Never tried that before.

Would those "micro-cases" be unlimited for? I think I checked the wiki and they have names, which makes me think they may also be limited. Thing is I'm just looking for a cop game, which are far and few between even without the replayability I seek.

There are 40 "micro-cases" in total.
You can do them as many times as you want, but it gets very repetitive with time.

I guess some of those police mods in one of the GTA's would come closest to what you seek. You can even join groups with other people playing, where everyone has it's own job/role. Maybe that's something to think about?

So they can be done multible times? Will they also appear in free-roam after the story, and how often? Will I have to wait like 10min of pointlessly driving around to recieve one? Are there any other side activites to do while I waited for a new one?

They are like GTA Missions. They are scripted to happen only in a specific place.
You simply open the map and go there.
Of course, as you are completing the storyline more of those get avaliable.

Once you finish the main storyline the game gets quite boring, as you have done most of the side-missions. If you replay them it will literally be the same dialoges and everything. Bear in mind.

IIRC you have to load a previous case to get back into free-roam, right? I don't remember there being free roam after you complete the story. Clicking "load" just reloads the last checkpoint in the last case.

There are five Desks (Departments) in the game, each with a different partner and car.
You can chose to free roam in any of those 5, except for the Patrol desk, because it is basically just a tutorial.
After you complete a Desk, player and their partner are available to roam Los Angeles freely.

When on free-roam (in game called The Streets of LA), you can do Collectibles and the Street Cases.

If you want to know more, check LA Noire Wikia:

There you have everything well covered and explained.

yes it's free roam
but you can only doing some street crimes (40 in total i think) and do collectibles
it's not unlimited but you can doing it again if you completed it all

well the main-story is great and you would not regret to buy it by the way

im playing it in laptop (i3, nvidia geforce 720m, 6 gb ram)
and running well (medium setting, 25-30 fps)
bit laggy in firefight but not a big deal

sry for my bad english

1. Yeah because the game has to end. It's not some freaking asian MMORPG
2. Never had any issues but a lot of people complain so who knows what will happen to you?

I'd just get GTA. There's some great mods for it (LSPD:FR) Which can actually transform the game into a police simulator. With LSPD:FR, you get all types of callouts, and you can install more. You can customize your character, agency, (FIB, Sheriff, LSPD, etc) You can preform traffic stops, go on pursuits, and even more.
